Newmarket, Ontario

Thanks Martin that's what I've been quoted too. How's the weather in Markham mlue? 'Cause it sure isn't Porsche weather in Newmarket! They're calling for another snow storm tonight, making it 4 storms in the last month in Southern Ontario, which is going to break a few 'early winter' snow fall records since the '70s. What a great year to buy a porsche eh?

You get the snows comming off Georgian Bay so you get the full effect of any snow storm compared to us in Markham.

This is the best forum for any technical help with your new pride and joy but doing a major job like a clutch replament right off the bat can be a bit intimidating so if you decide to not go the DIY route and want a reputable shop to do a big job like a clutch replacement try getting a quote from Auto Select in Newmarket (no affiliation), I've heard that the owner Franz really knows his stuff, he is supposed to be Porsche factory trained on the 944 series and worked on the Rothmans 944 race cars as well. Since you didn't mention any maitenance records you really should get the timing belt looked at ASAP.

EDIT: There is a Canadian Forum on this board where you can go to for topics that are uniquely Canadian:

It's a coincidence that you suggested Auto Select. That's where I've been told to take it for a pro review, and yes the timing belt issue is bothering me as I have absolutely no records or history on this 944 other than confirming through the Ministry that it's a one owner vehicle. So I'm literally tossing the dice on this little investment. So when the roads clear up I'm heading straight over to Auto Select. As much as I'm exited about having this Porsche looked at by a experienced Porsche mechanic, I am also a little nervous that the car may need all of the common issues replaced that is so often referred to in 944 forums such as timing belt, rollers, water pump, spring centered clutch etc. I might be in for a rough ride if the past owner neglected these regular maintenance requirements so important to the longevity of a '84 944. Oh well, better to know now, then to find out later.
