Trans question (replacement parts)

I have a '87 944 n/a tranny, that needs to be beefed up. With a rebuild in mind and no direct history with Porsche, having part references/cross references would be a very handy thing for me. Is there a standard list of "replace these items with..."?

The only reason I would have a 944 transmission rebuilt is if it was a Limited-Slip. Otherwise, I'd spend the money on getting one that was.

If you still want to rebuild, all spare parts are available from Porsche, but I couldn't tell you about cross references. Check the parts diagrams right here on Pelican and you'll find what you need. Be advised that transmission parts are very, very expensive.

+1

Used 944 trannies are so abundant and cheap that it is usually financially disadvantageous to have one rebuilt, often even if you have the know-how to do it yourself and just buy the parts. Just buy a spare tranny, ideally w/ LSD as he said. You can always keep the original as a spare and to show a future owner that you still have all original parts. If you modify your tranny, your car will not be purely original either way.

Why does your tranny need to be "beefed up"? Other options include going with a 951 type unit instead, which should be plenty "beefy"...
