Question about the Performance Throttle Cam Porsche 944

Well I really just noticed this the other day. I got my car last year and noticed that the there was a Performance Throttle Cam installed on it instead of the arm looking cam. I had no clue that this was an aftermarket thing, or did Porsche install the round ones on the 86s? Not too sure, but anyway, I also noticed that I have some loosness in the actual cable to the attach point on the Throttle Cam. The adjustment screw on the bracket is on the very end, so I have no tighting adjustment left and I guess can not adjust the idle if needed. Is there away to reset the end of the cable, or another place for adjustment so I can take the slack out of the cable? Not sure if I could take the cable out and reset the lock on the end? Thanks Mike

Hey Mike,

You shouldn't use the cable to adjust idle. There is a different way if you need to do that.

I am not at home right now so I can't look and I don't remember off the top of my head but maybe look for an adjustment on the other end of the cable. If there isn't one, then it's just stretched too far and needs changed.

It's adjusted at the firewall. Not easy to do. But like Razor said it could just be stretched and need replacing.

Thanks hpservertech...I was thinking it was there but couldn't remember for sure.

To adjust idle, you jump between pins B and C on the test plug and then use the idle adjustment screw. If you change with the cable, it may throw off the throttle position sensor.

By a pain, I mean it's a real big pain. the cable is kept attached to the firewall by a rubber grommet, which is much easier to get out then to actually get back in.

I've got both throttle cams. I would just stick with the stock one personally. I didn't notice things being that much better.

Thanks for the info, looks like I will need to change the cable someday, due to not having the original one from the past owner. I guess it has streched! Thanks Mike

those aftermarket throttle cams just increase the low throttle quickness by doing away with the arm. Some like it and some don't. I got one last x-mas and have never looked back.

Since it's missing the arm, it ends up taking up less cable, so that's one reason why the cable is maxed out. Sounds like stretch is also an issue, as mine is very close to the max at the throttle body bracket because of the cam, but there's still enough adjustment to get the slack out.

Mine is pretty strached, I am not too sure there is a tread left for the adjustment. Looks like that is one of those weekend projects the way everyone is talking. I guess I will save it for the summer time! Thanks
