Help needed

Hello all,
I have an 85.5 944 na. Since I bought it a few months ago I have had new water pump/ new belts and proper adjustment to those belts by a certified Porsche mechanic. Recently the cv joints were replaced. It has been rumming perfectly. Last night I left the car outside in some very cold weather (8F). This morning when I started it barely turned over and died twice. When I got it going I noticed there was very little if any throttle response along with a rapid clicking sound comming from underneath towards the rear. I should note that it's an automatic. After letting the engine run for a minute it still ran very rough. The throttle started working although it was sluggish. The car will run but it sounds like somebody poured a box of rocks in the engine and trans. Any ideas?
Thanks Dietrich

Sounds like two issues.

Cold Start issue may be Fuel pump or Fuel Filter. Even DME Relay. Kinda tuff. Checking your Fuel pressure at the Fuel rail. Should be about 45psi if you can rent equipement would be a good start.
If that is low then you could start with fuel filter, and maybe pump. (that is if it's starting and running bad)

Rock sounds in drive train... Don't know on auto tranny, but that seems like seperate issue.

Not a deep repeating with time of Engine Tumping? IE Knock Knock. bad Rod bearing. Will sound like it's coming more from front of car.

Hello all,
The answer: Flex damper plate. About 900 dollars for the new part and 9-12 hours labor. My Porsche mechanic allowed me to see the chunk of rubber missing. Should be done by Friday. I've researched enought to know this is a common although unpleasant ailment. This comes right after a timing belt/water pump replacement plus new cv joints. I've put too much in her to turn back now. If do I will have lost my shirt. The only answer is to get it done and put it on the road for several years otherwise it's all in vain.
Regards Dietrich

The Damper plate/flywheel is an issue with these ladies, but I can't see how that would cause start plus acceleration issues, especially if you were just rev-ing. IMO if you have the Flywheel done. Buy a rear Seal, and Clutch at the same time or you will have one more issue later. The Rear seal is a pre caution but I would defineately do the Clutch and pressure plate replaced at same time if, it's not of know history. The labor is for free with the Flywheel replacement. I know it's another $400-600 but worth it if your going to keep her IMO.
Maybe have that mechanic check the Fuel pressure at the rail to eliminate my previous fuel issues. He'll have the tool and it's really easy.

I was told these cars can cost $1000 a year in parts and labor just to keep them going from a really good shop. Some years more, some years less. It gets cheaper if you do it yourself for the smaller stuff.

Best luck,
