Question Coughing and Farting..need of ??

It started very gradually.. First symptoms were..loss of little power.. had to push pedal a little more.. and then.. once in a while.. engine would die for real short time, when I'm driving on the freeway, and come back again.. so when I give more pedal, engine would rab higher rpm,... but but less power comparing to how it was.. try to give more, it would cough.. this gradually got bad and bad.. NOW, it's doing it from the start.. and I know it's going to get worse.. now with just trying to get out of my drive way,it jerks so I give more gas, it really coughs badly, and farts=backfires.. with just a starting out.. well.. I tryed to adjust the fuel/air mix in the fuel distributor ( WELL.. found out a little too late not to mess with this screw, without the proper monitoring unit..; too late now..).. of course did help little bid, when I smell the gas=burning rich.. gets a little better.. but still does it pretty badly..now to a pooint it's not acceptable..if I gas the pedal at higher rpm, I can go into next gear.. but with regular way, the engine just clunks, and and coughs and wants to shut off.. all this in a 5-6weeks.. and getting worse.. well.. can you give me some suggestions.. where to start looking and replacing corresponding units./parts.. what is giving out here.?? I'm sure many of you guys had same problem... Your input is appreciated..thanks..

it's a 81 turbo.. a 931.. many users know me now.. I got the car in a bad shape.. well for a good price as you know.. and trying to get it right.. it's got 134k on the engine.. and it's got an very clean body.. that's why it's worth it.. if it wasn't, I would have not bought the thing.. I'm fixing it one by one.. problem by problem.. and I'm getting there.. the engine runs nice now.. at least at idle.it sounds good.. . there are several inginious guys on the site, with a lot of experience, that had been very very helpful to this point, to get it going good.. I had overheating problem with hg.. I had posted earlier.. and it was fun.and got it fixed nicely...I was hoping this problem was with my hg problem, but was not.. did not go away with it.. still there. . I'm not a mechanic, but with all the cars I had in my past,, I got to work on general stuffs.. of couse with porsches.. not too good..just getting started... yet.. I think it may be the fuel.. section.. or air/mix area.. or even a electrical distribution..?? of course.. I need good advice where to start and how... thanks..

Check all your vacuum connections to start. Then look at the TPS & ICV. With all the problems you have been having it's sounding like the usual suspects are starting or have gone now.
