1st track day...

Took the 944 to Infineon raceway on Saturday.

1st session, I thought I was gonna get run over . I didn't know the line and passing zones, I'm sure I pissed off a few people. A Camaro passed me on inside of a no-passing corner and I thought it was my fault, but later he was black flagged and I think ejected for the day for driving like an idiot, so I felt better.

2nd session was better, but I was still on sensory overload trying to remember where to be, watch traffic, look for the flagstations, listen to instructor and drive the car.

3rd session I had a while to calm my nerves. I was tailgating a Honda CRX most of time, keeping his pace . Instructor was still telling me to let up in the passing zones to let faster traffic go by (WRX, WRX, WRX, those damn things were everywhere).

4th session I actually passed 2 cars! The only cars that passed me were a Corvette z06 (he was breathing down my neck so much in the turns that I almost spun out), then another WRX and a full-race Camaro, those I even had to let up at the end of the passing zones out of courtesy.

Attaching a few pics...

Next time come on down and say hi to the 944Spec guys. We all pit together and welcome the HPDE guys to join us. We are normally down behind the Grandstands. We had 4 racers and 1 HPDE this weekend. (If you are looking to join 944Spec we can help you get set too !)

I was over there Saturday talking to you guys and taking a few pics of your cars right before you were going out. Thanks for the invite, I'll try to set up over there next time.
I watched you Spec guys run, looked like you were all making right around 2:00 to 2:10 times?

I envy you. It's +1 in the windy city (Chicago) with lots of snow on the ground. I'm getting use to thinking 1"- 2" of snow as nothing much. Plenty of pot holes too. I blew a tire on my MB last week; probably bent the rim. Almost don't want to drive. Can't wait till the weather breaks.

I must have missed you - Sorry. Our times were 2:01 to 2:11 (I'm the slowpoke at the back) - so you were right on the money as far as the times go.

my 944 S is in the garage like a whinning puppy in its cage who is not aloud to go out a play in the snow. It's 11 degrees in Jersey with snow on the way.

I'm happy for 'ya, though!

Novice day is basically the same as a regular DE day, except they are more 'lax' with the rules. Meaning you do not need a FE in the car and convertibles do not need roll hoops. From all of my friends who DE regularly, you are better off signing up for the green group rather than the novice group.

Full DE and AutoX schedules for the metro region should be up in a week or two. I know the auto-x schedule is just being ironed out. Which region are you in, Metro or Hudson Valley?

Congrats on your first track day. I remember mine - almost 10 years ago now - and that feeling of sensory overload.

THE BEST way to learn IMHO is to ride along with a fast, experienced driver. No amount of explaining, coaching, etc, could teach me what I learned in one lap riding with an instructor. I make it a point to hitch a ride with a hot shoe every now & then to refresh my memory.

OK, I can admit it, I didn't even know I had 7's and 8's. I'm a 944 newbie.
Previous owner must have been a Nascar fan.
Good eye ERAU944. I probably would have never noticed.

May 1st will be my first day of actual track driving, at Lime Rock in Connecticut. Watkins Glen is sometime in late August or early September. I'm sure you're in a different group, but still I hate not having nice weather all year round. Of course, it does give us something to look forward to, but still...my Subaru from 1700-something just doesn't cut it for four months a year.

Lime Rock was fun as a passenger, though. 140mph in a new GT3. OMG...
