clutch

944 83 na Clutch will not work.

I checked the inpection hole and the fork is moving about 3/4 of in. SO that means it should be working right?

Pull trans back and drop clutch. How far back does trans need to come ? and is it better to just drop it out?

You sure the clutch is bad? It could have an air pocket or could be one or both of the hydraulics for them.

Check out www.clarks-garage.com It's what I'm using to do my clutch right now. I cheated though and just took the whole engine out.

There was a problem in the master cly when I got it. It had a terrible leak. I bled the system and the clutch seems to move the fork a good 3/4 of inch (looking in the inspect hole) . THat should be enough to release right?

Define does not work. It won't engage but still feel pressure when you hit the pedal? Its probably a bad clutch center. You will have to remove the transmission and push the torque tube back a long ways (about 16 inches). There are numrous write ups in detail but its not a very easy job.

Does not work, I mean "will not release" or "disengage" the clutch must not be "burt up" because it pulls, right?

Here is the movement of the fork, Does this look like the right amount ?

That is a lot of play. I would say that the clutch disc is bad.

Check out www.clarks-garage.com for the steps in replacing the clutch.

Also look at this for checking the disc wear.

I think what his picture shows clutch pedal depressed versus not depressed, which shows that its working. Is there pressure on the pedal when you depress it? I have seen a pressure plate's "fingers" come apart causing the clutch not to release but its fuly engaged all the time as the throw out bearing has nothing to push against the pressure plate on.

You would think that would release. Did you buy it this way or did it stop working?

The only time I have seen pressure and clutch not releasing is due to a spring center 951 clutch failure. One of the small springs broke and fell out lodging itself between the pressure plate and the disc so even when the clutch pedal is depressed, the broken spring still provides pressure against both parts not letting the clutch release.

Hi Tom,
Daughter's car still going, having alignment trouble is all.

This project, I bought it this way. It was repo, found on walmart parking lot. I'm thinking this is what caused it to be left there. I just wanted to make sure I had checked everything b4 pulling the trans tube. (if I goes like the other one a real pain)
