Can't get it started!
My son has 1984 944. Engine stopped while driving in the rain. Checked the fuel pump - seems to be working. Plugs are OK. Changed spark plug wires, distributer cap and rotor, but I only get spark from the front wire on the first plug. The engine turns, so the starter is good. Any ideas as to what to check next???

Did the coil get wet?
If so and you still have the coil cover on it, it will be shorting out. Try to get it dried out and try again. |
Same thing for the distributor & rotor.

Thanks for the help!!! Distributor and rotor are brand new as of today & everything is dry. Still will not start. I find it strange that I can get spark from one wire / plug but not the others! Next suggestion?

swap that plug wire with one that is not firing, if it fires in the swapped position get a new set
|
Did not think of that. Thank you. I will try that tomorrow!

ok, also pull the cap off and have someone crank it and see if the rotor spins normally

+1 ^^ I agree with Rich...Try to turn the rotor with your fingers. If it turns, you need to reposition it and tighten it up properly. Also look to make sure it's on there all the way and not wobbling. It's unlikely three plug wires are bad, so it's probably more to do with the rotor not touching the dist. cap where it's suppose to because it's wobbling or not turning.
