944 n/a trim levels
Ok so I'm still fairly new with the 944 I've had it for a few months still trying to get it running but I still try to get more and more info on this car so I'm prepared. It's an 1985 porsche 944 and what I'm wondering is; 1. How do I tell if it's an 85.5 or just an 85 and 2. How can I figure out what trim level it is it seems pretty loaded to me as far as options go. So any help is appreciated thank you

I'm not sure what you mean by "85 and 2" but to kinda answer your question
Early cars ('82-85) have this interior ![]() Late cars ('85.5-91) have this interior ![]() You can tell what cars are optioned with via the option sticker that should be located in the rear hatch under the carpet if memory serves me correct. It'll at least give you an idea of how "loaded" it is. From what I've researched, there aren't any trim levels to speak of; unless you're referring to specific models(944 ,944S , Turbo/Turbo S, S2)? |

I have had both interiors in my 83 and then in my 85.5. I like the updated style of the later cars, but on both of them I installed white faced gauge faces and updated the backlighting for the gauges, which really helped at night.
There were different options for seat coverings whether it be cloth, cloth with "porsche" script, or leather. I don't think there were alot of alternative options for the interior of the car. You can look at the option code tag back under the carpet between the tail lights to get a better idea of what options your car came from the factory with. |

I think the list of trims/options were limited to seats, steering wheel, and on later models, sound system.(Extra speaker panels).
My '84 came with a smaller steering wheel with an eccentric center. Super comfortable for a 6' 2" guy on longer rides with the huge increase in leg room. ![]() The early model interiors do not seem to hold up as well to the elements as the later models. Most are in a seriously trashed looking state.

Porsche didn't do "trim levels" like you might find with some brands (ie, "LE", or "LX" etc). They simply had an endless list of options. Check the the ones you want and that would be the car they would build. More often than not, dealers spec'd them in a way that would sell them quickly.
Listed either in the owners manual/maintenance book, or in the well where the spare tire sits should be the factory build sheet information with 3 letter/number codes for the various options your car is fitted with.
