Hello, newbie, taking delivery of a 84 944 on Monday
Hello, just stopping by to introduce myself. I just purchased a 84 944 with 110,000 miles , car is clean inside and out, (will post pics when I get it) only needs a clutch replacement. I will tackle that job after doing some homework on that. Any tips or hints on a clutch replacement would be appreciated.

Clutch replacement can be a big job. The car's 20+ years old and you'll run into several corroded/frozen nuts and bolts. However, its not rocket science, just nuts and bolts. Use PB Blaster to soak almost every bolt you're working on. In my experience it is much better than Liquid Wrench or WD-40. It's not unusual to have to pull the engine to get the clutch out.
There are several good threads on here regarding clutch replacement. Reading them would be a good primer. also, Clark's Garage has a good writeup on clutch replacement. Best of luck. jmd_forest

Make sure you have some impact tools. Makes the job so much easier. Good set of jack stands, and lots of patience/time. This isn't a quick job. Belive book time is 14+ hours for an NA, so figure on doubling that if doing yourself.
Make sure you get new flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolts, clutch lever bushings. Get the flywheel resurfaced as well. Should run you about $50 at most car quests. www.clarks-garge.com has the best writeup on this. take your time and ask any questions you need to. Lots of us have been through this before.
