can anyone tell me how....
I need help with this rear end, it has a dent in the "PORSCHE" letters the dent starts at the end of the "C" and it ends at the line decal on the side of the letters, I am going to paint my car and I don't know how to get that dent out, i would like to know how without bodyfilling it.

Your best option on that area would be a "stud welder". It is basically a hand held spot welder that attaches a 2" long piece of copper coated steel wire to the body of the car. Once these studs are welded on, you can use a medium size slide-hammer to then pull the indented section back to where it should be.
Personally when using studs, I use a couple pieces of hard wood against the rest of the body panel and use a pair of vice grips prying against the pieces of wood to slowly pull the dent level to the rest of the panel. Once finished, the studs are easily ground down flush. Anytime you straighten a panel, there will be slight variances in the contour of the surface that need to be blended. I use lead on all of my restorations here, followed by a thin layer of spot filler anywhere there is an exposed air bubble in the sanded down lead. Most people however will use a plastic bodyfiller like bondo to smooth the surface. Many respectable shops use Bondo! However the key is only using it to smooth a surface, where maybe 1/32 of an inch of filler is built up in a small area. The improper use of Bondo is to pile it on an inch at a time to fill a huge dent! Hope it helps! -Nick

There's no rear access to that area - yes, you need a stud gun.

my mom had a dent in the rear pass. fender of her santa fe. i watched the guy repair it. basically all he did was drill a hole into the door jam, use a tool to get in behind the fender, and tap the dent out.. looks good as new, and he plugged up the hole with some sealer and a rubber stopper...
I really cant remember what that area is like back there, but if there's no access to that spot - is it something you could drill to from under the hatch carpet?

Pull your carpet back on the very rear and see if you have a couple body plugs in that area (mine are about 1 1/8" in diameter), if so you might could use a 1" square piece of hardbood to gently tap some of the dent out. I was replacing the carpet in my '87 last night thats the only reason I knew those body plugs were in there. Good luck with it.

I'd like to know how you make out because I have exactly the same dent, only on the left side between the "O" & the "R."
I always wondered what the heck could make that type of dent without damaging anything else. I'ts been there since I bought the car, so I guess it'll always remain a mystery. Good luck. |
