Strange window behavior, need electrical help
I have a 1985 Series 1 - The passenger window switch on the drivers side did not operate the passenger window. I removed the switch, cleaned the contacts and bingo the I can now open the window from the drivers side BUT the passenger side switch quit working. I took the passenger door switch apart, cleaned the contacts, nothing. It still works from the drivers side but not from the passenger side. This tells me I need a new passenger switch. But ...now here's the mystery. I swapped switches from driver to passenger & passenger to driver side. Then the fuse blew. I put them back in thier orginal positions & replaced the fuse. The window now operates again from the drivers side but not the passenger side. More mystery. About 50% of the time when operating the passenger window from the driver's side switch the window, going up, will BARELY start to move, as if it were binding. If I reach over and simultaneously hit the passenger switch it instantly goes up at full speed. Its as if I just gave it a better ground or more voltage. To recap (if your still with me) passenger door window swtich does not work (up or down). The window does however goes up and down nicely from the drivers side but it will intermintenely creep when going up (but never down). When it creeps, a simultaneous touch on the passenger side switch make it work at normal speed again.
WHY???? Sorry for the long post, thanks for hanging in with me. Spud |

The passenger side window switch is interconnected between the driver's side switch and the passenger side switch. You have a problem somewhere in the circuit but it could take hours with a wiring diagram and a DVM to figure it out. Replace the passenger side switch, they're about $20 on ebay. It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace both switches.
Also, use some silicone spray on the runners to help the glass move smoothly. jmd_forest

Once you get the switch working right, you need to take both door panels out and
grease all the moving joints and wheel teeth gears. |

If you want to confirm for your self; On the passenger side switch: A DVM across the bl/bk and bl wires. You should see the volts toggle between + and - 12V when operating the switch. In your case you probably don't. Thus why it's not working. Now put the DVM across the rd/wt and rd/bk and operate the drivers switch. You should see the DVM toggle +ve and -ve 12V. Power is getting to the switch, but not out of it (or not enough of it to operate the motor). The reason why it's working when you operate both switches is because only one of the poles inside the passenger switch is working correctly, and providing either a good supply or good ground (without doing measurements, I can't tell which direction will be up or down).
