Do I need spacers for these wheels?

I have a 1985/1 944. I am looking at some phone dial type wheels from a 1987 944. Would I need spacers to properly fit these? Thanks

yes.

Personally I'd hold out for a nice set of Fuchs or cookies, IMHO the phonies are the least attractive of the three (guess what I have two sets of, 'cause I have an '88...)

You can use them without spacers without a problem. They wont look right, but you dont absolutely need them.

For spacers you would need 20mm front/rear.

You can use them but they would be better with spacers.

I've had them on my 83 since I got it many years ago - I didn't know at first that they were not correct, just that the wheel stance looked too narrow. Now that I know they're wrong it really bugs me.

Anyway, there is some slight rubbing on the front coil springs but it's no big deal.

there were some factory 19mm spacers that shouldnt be too hard to find that could make things look nicer

If you are looking at the sets that I am currently selling on eBay (4 15" with tires & 2 16" without tires), I would definately buy them and pay top dollar too. (shameless plug).

All kidding aside, I once put 928 Phondials on my '88. The 928 has a 65mm offset and my 88 uses 52.3. The only problem with the wheels is they sat closer to the center of the car. This can be corrected with spacers.

It's the later cars that cannot use the early offset wheels but the early cars can use late wheels with spacers.
