No start 944

Hi everyone, I am new to Porsche, but got a 911 a month ago, so I havent checked much on the 944 side. Now I have aquired a 944 today, and need a little advice. Maybe a good wiring diagram would do, but figured that the experience in this forum will shed some light on my problem. I have an 85 or 86 944 that cranks when you turn the key, but its not getting fuel. Also I noticed that the guages dont come alive either. I thought it was low on gas so put 5 gallons in and it didnt move. The tach doesnt jump up either when its cranking, and oil pressure doesnt move. Also the volts stays under ten. Does anyone think the DME relay isnt turning things on. It does click, and fuses were ok. The car did almost start with a little carb clean in the intake, so spark is ok. Thanks everyone, and I look forward to reading and talking to alot of you soon

I had the exact same problem with mine when I got my 924S. It was the pump. Easy to find and to check. Drain the gas back out (gives you a chance to make sure you aren't mixing good new with bad old at the same time) and use a battery and two wires to test the pump.

Could also be a clog in a fuel line. These things tend to sit before they're sold.

Just another perspective for you to look at. Hope things go well over there.

I wasnt equiped to do to much checking, but fond it odd that none of the guages lit up. My buddy told me it ran not to long ago, and realize that it could be the pump, but the guages and lights seem to be more of an issue that could fix the no start as well. Car has 93000 miles by the way

if your tach doesn't bounce that's usually an indicator that something is bad w/ the reference and speed sensors found on the back of the engine. I'd start there. Check out clarks-garage.com for some useful info for sure. ALso there is a relay to the DME (computor) from the ignition that could be a culprit, especially since the DME relay controls the fuel pump when starting. There is a way to bypass the relay to start the car and see if that's the problem, it should be outlined for you in clarks garage. let us know what you find and we'll go from there.

Thats all great info, and I appreciate it. Where can I get a wiring diagram for the car. Again I question why I have no guages or lights on the dash. If for some reason I have no power to the cluster, then the tach wont bounce. I think its more likely something with that

http://www.the944.com/ There's some good info on that site too and click on the bottom link on the left hand side and that bad boy should get ya all the info your little heart may desire as far as schematics goes. Good luck.

PS: also do a search on this site and you might get some stuff too.
