I enlarged the stock hole, made a mounting plate and put 6.5" Polks with a separte tweeter in my car. You might could get larger but these were easy to fit and sound great.

Found a picture of one similar to mine. I put the tweeter where the white mark is.

CPorsche, looks great! I myself am going to a component system for the rear and you answered my question on diameter.
Same set-up has already been done to the front using Infinity Perfect component set up. thx for the info. you saved me the trouble.

Thanks for the info. If I can get big enough speakers in the back (stock location) I may be able to avoid putting a subwoofer in the cargo area. I'd like it to be as stock looking as possible - but I need good sound too.

I bought a set of Bose ear buds for my ski trip a few weeks ago, and ever since I got back my car stereo sounds like crap - I love the sound of Bose stuff.

go to a junkyard and find a wrecked 968..they came with 6.5 speakers in the rear..there is a frame that holds the 6.5 speaker attached to the body in the same spot as on the 944..the 6.5 frame just unscrews from the inside where the speakers are and you can screw it right to the 944 frame..perfect fit and you don't have to make anything. Likewise if your looking for a great place to put your amp, and subwoofers..go to the junkyard and find a 968 that had the rear compartments instead of seats, take out your seats from your 944 and install the compartment.. This compartment fills the whole area where you seats were, and if your lucky you can find one with the same color carpet for a perfect match. Do you really use the back seats for anything????

My 924S has fitting for both? It comes with 4X6's but had a plate you can remove for the 6"

Great info! Now if I can just find a 968. I will take apart a 924 and see what's in there as well as a 944 - I see those cars at the wrecking yard fairly often.

I may check out e-bay and other sources to see if I can find these.

Thanks again.........................Vern

I clipped mine and run 6x9's in the rear hatch, under some of the carpetting. It's quite a bit better than using the stock ones.

Going all-out this weekend, though. Custom enclosure, Memphis M-class sub and amp. Hertz Space speakers up front (because I'm pretty sure that's the only 6.5" that will fit with 1 3/4" of depth clearance). Should be pretty solid.

4x6 is just a bad size to begin with.

ANYTHING is better than the stock speakers! I'd agree that 4x6's aren't ideal, but I've got some decent Pioneers and they're pretty good, unless I want to play it loud.

Anyone know of a good sub setup that works well in these cars? I want to put a sub in mine sometime (hopefully this summer). I'd imagine you wouldn't need too much to get big sound, since the car's so small inside.

Depends what you're looking for. I'm running one Memphis M-Class in a somewhat large vented box. It's only getting 250 watts, but it's much louder than my older setup (1000W to two Alpine Type R's). It's ALL about the box. Our cars our hatchbacks, too, so everything is louder than in a sedan or what have you.

I just hope the box fits LOL. It's about 16x16x24.

So I'm guessing there is no way to fit 4-Way 6X9 Pioneers in there?

I doubt you could. But it's just easier to put them in the hatch, anyways, in their own boxes.

I'm just worried that if someone see's the 6X9's in boxes in the hatch that it gives them incentive to break in. I am having the cubby holes used for an 8" sub and amp similar to KLA's set-up WHICH i HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO YOU Tidybuoy...

I am also looking to keep my hatch space the same because I travel in the Porsche every now and then and use that space to its fullest. I have the 6.5" in th eback already but sound still lacks and the higher the volume the more my ears feel like they are gonna start bleeding from all the high's.

Any suggestions on clever inconspicuous places for 6X9's???

Will these brackets work on 87+ or all 944s?

My two cents

i just finished replacing all my speakers and I am not a big fan of the 4x6 inch speakers. I installed some high quality Alpine speakers and they still do not have the sound I am looking for, you need something bigger and if you are not going to go with the subwoofer in the back, upgrade to the bigger 968 setup for sure. Luckly I have a trunk, so I am going with a 12" woofer with a custom made low profile box.

Hello All,

I was able to place Infinity 4"x6" Plate Speakers in the standard door position on spacers. In the rear quarter panels I was able to get Infinity 6"x9" , with special built spacers, and a little metal cut. In the rear spare tire cubby I placed two JL Audio 10" W3V2 in a sealed box. I have a 500w. amp driving the subs. I also have a 200w. amp for the front 4x6plates, and another 200w amp for the 6x9's. When my unit is turned up about half way the subs still move objects inside my car (Have a neck chain hung over the mirror and it dances with the music - as well as the amp gauge).

have pfunn

As Cocacolakidd stated, Infinity 4x9 plates (or Polk db / Momo) will fit on the doors if you fab up a simple spacer - You don't even need to dill new screw holes. My car came with 5x7 speakers in the rear-seat location, which I took out in favor of 6x9s in the back cargo hatches. I was originally trying to avoid going to a sub by using the 6x9s, but they didn't hold up well at highway volumes with the bass I wanted so I ended up putting a small Blaupunkt powered sub in the spare-tire well. In the end, I wound up with 4x6 plates front, nothing back seat, and 6x9s with a small sub far back. Based on my experience, I would say if you intend on going sub, skip the 6x9's in the rear and instead wire in a 6.5" component set (seperate tweeter and woofer) in the real seat location as others suggested. If you don't want a sub, 4x6 front / 6x9 far back is the way to go.

In pictorial review:

The fronts...

The rears...

And I have yet to get any pics of the sub, but take my word that there is plenty of room in the spare tire well if you want a bit more bass response.
