H4 Bulb Recommendation

Hi all:

PO converted my 951 to halogen headlights. I'm looking to upgrade the bulbs. I'd like a whiter, brighter light. I have the PIAA Extreme White Plus in mind mostly because PIAA says they put out 110/100 watts equivalent. As such, the marketing hype suggests these provide off-road brightness while being street legal.

What would you recommend?

Thanks.

It’s all hype in the halogen world, they base their claims on pure fantasy so don’t get fooled. The laws of physics say you cannot get more wattage unless you draw more current or increase the voltage (W=IxV), anything else is marketing bull. What these bulbs are simply doing is producing a different color spectrum of light to fool you into thinking they are brighter, which they are not.

All that besides, any halogen is going to be much better than the sealed beams that came with the car.

Install a headlight relay harness if you haven't already, before trying new bulbs.

I put in Hikari 6k cool white LEDs - they're bright as the sun and really white. With the halogens, I never got flashed by oncoming traffic, with the LEDs I did until I aimed the headlights properly (the driver side was aimed several feet high and to the left)

H4 LED in a 6500k color I believe. Hella e code over the hella dot spec light housings. And if you’re brave 100/120 h4 halogen bulbs ( upgraded wire harness a must) and you will be as bright as new vehicle, brighter and most cases. Hella encodes would definitely be a must at that point so you don’t blind on coming traffic and better controll of the beam pattern

Much better results if you upgrade the harness.Keeps the headlight switch less stressed

My stock H4's were pretty good until I tried Osram nightbreakers. RoW cars get extra lighting from the parklights/driving lights in the front bumper, so I upgraded my H3's in them to nightbreakers also.

+101 for a new harness.

I switched my VFR over to LED H4s, ones with the loops of copper braid for heat sinks. I am pretty happy with them, I was mainly looking to reduce the current draw, the stockers were dimming a bit at idle when the fans kicked in. The color is a bit kid-stuff-mod blue but on a bike it's not bad to be a bit distinctive and noticeable. Current draw is 1A each for the LEDs, 1/3 of the an H4.

Some years ago I also converted my 4runner's H4s to LED and I am happy with those. These are also a fanless design, but an older style LED that is probably NLA. They still work fine though despite many many miles of dirt and offroading.
