Thought I had a flat WT...?

I was driving home the other night and the car started vibrating like a had a flat tire...it felt so much like a flat tire I pulled over to change it...? The tires were fine and then the car smoothed out again at least for now...what the heck happened ?
I am thinking it has something to do with the transmission and or rear CV joints, I have never felt anything like this before In any car (unless it was a flat tire of course)

I had something similar happen over the weekend, I was driving home when out of nowhere the car started shaking, sputtering and bucking about. I pulled over, checked everything visible, and started up again. With the car nearly stalling, I lurched it to a convenience store. That's when I realized what the problem was all along, the low fuel light bulb must've gone out. I put $20 in gas in it and drove home.

Not to beat this to death but check the bearings or the torque on the retaining nuts. Rule it in or out then move on.

You may have a good point, a couple of weeks ago I tightened one side to see if I could get rid of some vibration and it did, so perhaps the other side could be a little tighter, according to Clarks, the washer should be moved with little pressure from a screw driver...I am not sure this is the correct tenion on the nut...I am going to tighten the other side a little more as well.

Hi! This awkward situation has happend to me too a few times. I think this is RIO (road induced oscillation) and occur at a wavy or uneven road surface and lower speed......in my case 40 mph and lower. Cause.. probably too stiff suspension which doesent react quickly enough to smooth out the uneveness on the road.
Yes, this was really an awkward situation. It was like having one or few very oval wheels bumping the car up and down. I too checked the wheels at home but could not find anything wrong with them. Bearings front and aft was done and tensioned as per Clarkes-Garage a year earlier so I donīt think this is the issue.
Remedy? Well I pulled aside and zeroed speed and gear then started up again with forceful accelerating to road speed. No problem now.

I also remember I had just put the top back up because rain clouds were lerking...not sure if this had anything to do with it, my suspension is also set very stiff, I asked the guys who installed the front struts to back it off a bit and they forgot...

The rears are to be torqued unlike the front. You mentioned the rear end so the mentioning of the bearings popped up. I had a rear back off and on my way back home via interstate doing about 80mph the rear did as yours did. I found the nut had backed out. But did not vibrate at slow speed only high. You?

I am not sure how this happened, but I have some sort of mud, sand mix crap in my tires...I tried to spray it out with the hose and had to scrub it with a brush, there is the problem...

Well I'll be darned!! Well if that does not support the mantra...Porsche...it could be anything(causing a problem).

Good deal and cheapest repair yet, now get out there and burn the treads right off that speedster.
