Intoduction

Today while working on the car I realized I hadnt properly introduced myself. Well here goes!
As you may have guessed my screen name and my real name are the same. This is because if I say something I mean it and dont care who knows it! LOL. Many years ago I fell in love with Porsche and the love was so strong that I majored in international business, took four years of German and had an internship with Porsche in the works. But my girl"friend' at the time was going into one of a series of carefully rehearsed breakdowns, and I missed the boat. Never made it to Porsche. Didnt even graduate. Fast forward four years I'm dating a girl who knows all about how I love Porsche. To my suprise she buys one and says we'll restore it. Well, her dad is one of these Chevy types that "dont like them furrin cars". When THAT relationship went south I was the proud owner the communal car- a 1985/1 944 black, Fuchs alloys yippeeee.... only.. I had... no time.....
So it sat. Sat for four years. I got married to a wonderful lady and through that gained a few nieces and nephews. One nephew was a euro car fan. A bit passed and I talked the nephew into Porsche from Mini (original). An ER nurse I worked with had a 1983 944 $600. We got that for the nephew. I drove the 1983 for a while to work out kinks and help figure what was what. One day on my way home from work it was lightly raining and I rounded a curve. A woman had stopped to turn left and didnt have her signal on. She didnt even have her foot on the brakes. By the time I figured she had stopped it was too late. Bye bye 1983 944. Dejected, I had promised my nephew a 944. I gave him mine. One day while at work (I drive an oxygen truck) I took a side street and quite by accident, found a 944. This one was $500. Always a sucker for a hard luck case I wanted this one! God bless my wife, she worked a miracle, and now I have it! Now that work has calmed down and I have the time here she is in all her depressed and decrepit glory:

So I take it the car is not originally dark red as evident by taking the dash off.

Is the body anywheres near decent?

This screams club racer car to me, but if you are restoring it as a driver, good luck!

So what do you get when you buy a $500 Porsche? A boatload of bondo and an electical system that is screwed. I removed the wiring harness from the car cataloged each wire and plug and tested each wire. This weekend Ive been taking a break from rebuilding the bad parts of wiring harness. What better way than to tackle the body??? First things first the car was Crystal Green at one point. It was given the most horrible respray in the history of mankind. I was sanding all of it then I figured that a razor can "shave" this crud off much easier. Then I hit the quarter panel, and I want the first one to hit it!

The last photo is the bottom of the airbox. I took the airbox out last week and cleaned it really good and hit it with Plastikote "bumper black". The bracket I removed the bushings from sanded and painted.

Buff her out after using the razor and she will look just like new.

Does it drive? More external pics?

Welcome aboard the Pelican boat.

Does it drive? I dont know, it wasnt when I got it due to the electrical system being roasted. The dash was in the back seat and the entire car is a basket case. Thats ok, I'm more of a restorer than a racer- huge patientce and deep love for all things Porsche. The oil is clean in the timing belt isnt broken so I think the electrical system is what grounded it (no pun intended.). The paintwork under the red is a mess and will need a respray. Here are a few other pics:

Beyond the truck is the first 944, given to my nephew. He now drives it daily and is helping on my car. hes doing the passenger side and I'm doing the drivers.

"Many years ago I fell in love with Porsche and the love was so strong that I majored in international business, took four years of German and had an internship with Porsche in the works."

What a missed opportunity!

OK, stop the madness and untold hours of work and make this a parts car.
You could move the car to the street and park it next to the Oxygen truck and with your cigarette have an "accident".

I enjoyed the first picture so much, I thought I would offer a thread on dash removal-did you get one?----- and how to get it back together.
http://www.924.org/techsection/DashReplacement.htm.

What is important to check is the heater core-take out and pressure check-and replace the hoses if needed.

Yes, the car is complete. I have all the dash stuff from it plus odds and ends I've picked up here and there. I'm really stoked on this!
