Removal of front rotor backing plate

I need to remove the backing plate behind the front rotors of my 944S2. I have removed the rotors but it seems that I now need to remove the hub and wheel bearings. Is this correct? Do I need to repack the wheel bearings? What else will I need to do to get the backing plates off? David | ||

Yep, the hub has to come off. Use a chisel to remove the dust cap on the hub. There is a locking clamp with a 6mm allen head, loosen it and unthread it from the spindle. You can then pull out the entire hub assembly as one piece and can now remove the dust shields. You do not have to repack the bearings, just be careful not to contaminate the grease. Make sure there is adequate grease still in the hub and its not old / dried up / over heated. While its apart, its probably a good time to repack them if you have never done it before. Ive been meaning to take mine off also... im just too damn lazy .
