alternator engine mount

I have had a problem with the alternator on 924.

I have bought a new one however i have encountered a number of problems.

1. The first time I removed the alternator I had no jack so I actually did from the top. I removed the main pully, then removed the y bracket, cant really remember why i did it this way but it seemed right at the time. On removal I noticed that that the lower rubber bush on the adjusting bracket attached to the engine block was partially split. This has subsequently completley disintegrated and is now currently sat at the side of me, well half of it is!!!!

How is this bush attached to the block????

2. Having reasembled everything the alternator pulley does not line up with the main engine pulley. Therefore the fan belt is not properly alligned.

The top Y bracket can only fasten one way to the engine so I know that is not the problem. On the arm of this bracket that secures the alternator (the one with the allen key bolt) I noticed there is a rubber insert that appears worn.

Also on the adjustment bracket there is an insert that is also rubber.

Are these anything to do with why the pully does not line up????

Sorry if I appear niave or stupid but I have only owned the car for a couple of weeks and have very little experience.

Also now when I turn the ignition off the battery light stays on???

If any one can help would appreciate it.

Many thanks

JOhn

Not sure about anything other than your battery light staying on..You have wired something incorrectly or your new altenator is bad or the altenator is not charging the battery because it is not tentioned right. Hpservice tech will explain when he sees this about the altenator light he was trying to explain to someone else on here before why it goes on..
