What exactly does it do? Change the throttle curve? and where does it go?

Well it changes the ratio of pedal position to throttle body position to a direct 1:1.

The stock cam starts out with a ratio of more pedal to less throttle opening, therefore making it very easy to apply just enough gas to start out and be smooth when releasing the clutch. When starting out with the aftermarket cam, its hard to give it that same amount of throttle since you move the pedal a little and it moves the throttle much more than normal, it's hard to explain.

To make a long story short, it pretty much sucks.

No way The throttle response cam is sweet. I like the 1 to 1 feel, It makes the car feel faster, You just have to know how to drive your car and get use to it

I hated the feel of the original cam since I was used to cams with a 1:1 ratio. So I got used to the original cam but still hated it. Then I switched to the aftermarket cam and loved it in the beginning. It does make the car seem faster and more responsive. It was nice but I still had trouble being smooth. Had it on for probably a month or so. Went back to the original cam and absolutely love it over the aftermarket one.

It's just not for everyone I guess. It made my pedal feel very stiff.

I'll take the middle ground. I always thought the stock cam was too slow to react, so I bought the "response" cam. When I found that to be too abrupt and harder to modulate, I decided to split the difference. I took the stock cam and cut about half of the finger off of it with a hacksaw. Then I radiused the edge with a small file so it wouldn't wear on the cable. I polished it up, bolted it back on, adjusted the cable a bit, and drove away. I'm pleased with it, and at a total cost of $0, it was worth every penny.

I have had the aftermarket cam for 3 years now and love every second of it. But then again I am less concerned about how smooth I am taking off while leaving the retirement home for a trip up to the waffle house.

For what I do with my car anyway, the direct 1:1 response is extremely helpful, since there is so much abrupt throttle position changes going on while drifting.

I did not want to spend $30 on the aftermarket throttle cam so I modified the stock cam. I played with the lever length at the end of the stock cam until I found something to my liking. I probably cut off about 75% of the lever. Works very well. It is not stock and it is not a circle. I don't have a heavy feeling pedal and it is smooth.

I tried it on my daily driver. Absolutely horrible. For a track car or an autox car it would be great. but for a car that has to drive in rush hour traffic I'll stick with stock.

Another vote in favor. Makes the car snappier, and I have no problems driving in traffic. . .must be the 931 training.

I think it depends on how/what you are used to driving.

If you are a "track" driver, the response cam make the car "feel" like it is right there when you get on the throttle. If you are a DD/commuter, the stock cam is better in traffic and around town.

Personally, having been behind the wheel of alot of "performance" vehicles, I like the feel of the round cam. As a side note, if you have a performance chip there certainly is more appeal to the round cam, IMO.

So which one is standard? My car came with a round throttle but my roommate's came with one shaped like a teardrop.

I was under the impression it was the other way around the whole time! So, for a daily driver, it's personal preference whether or not the 1:1 cam is good or not. I learned to drive on the 1:1 (learning to drive standard for the first time!) so honestly I have no idea what should feel 'better'.
