Starter trouble after clutch rebuild 86 944

I have replaced the clutch in my car. After putting it all back together and checking everything i tried to start the car.
Starter wont turn.
I think i may have the wiring incorrect to the stater.
I have the battery live running to the starter, also small red wire which using an 8mm nut to connect. There is also another thick wire that runs with the small red wire. Does this go to the positive side of the starter or somewhere else.
I have connected the two ground wires by the sensors on the bell housing?
Im stuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any help please????

The two large cables connect to the same post on the starter, the one with the 13 mm nut. The small wire goes to the small post, the one with the 8 mm nut.

Thanks for the reply.
Thats what i thought, but then i read this thread which says it goes to the other post.
I can start the car by shorting the termnals on the starter but not with the key.
No ignition problems before i started the clutch so i dont think it would be the switch.

put the car in nuetral block the wheels for safety have someone turn the key and check for voltage on the small red wire when the key is turned. You can check the ignition switch pretty easily follow the procedure on www.clarks-garage.com. It only takes about 20 min or less to get to the switch after the steering wheel is removed.

check the elect conn at the firewall, it goes from key to starter solenoid, may be loose if no power as above

Thanks for the advice everyone.
The car wil now start on the key,it was a bad connection on the small red wire.
A quick wire brush to get it clean did the trick.
Thanks again, just need to test drive now after putting it all back together.
