alarm module question

i have a 90 model s2. I have been having lots of nostart issues. I took the car to my mechanic and he replaced the crank sensor, I show up to pick up the car and still no start. i have found that most times the car wont start I can open and shut the passenger door and the car will start right up.(wierd i know) I read on clark garage about the alarm module, and how the early cars and late cars use to different modules both part numbers start with 911.xxx.xxx. A friend let me borrow a module from a late model and i get ready to try it and my modules part number starts with a 928 part number.why does my car have a 928 number when it is only suppose to have 911 number? I decided to try and start the car before removing the module and the tach does not move, then I tap on the module while spinning the engine. as soon as i tapped the tach jumped up to 2 grand dropped back down and the car fired right up. I cut the car off and tried again now the car refuses to start at all. i have no spark and no fuel and little to no tach bounce. I have not tried the borrowed module becuase i dont want to put the wrong one inand mess up some thin. anybody got any ideas?

bypass the alarm module for now until you can locate the right one. Clarks shows you what pins to jump..

regardless of the alarm bypass results, get the correct module and replace it.

I had the same problem and bypassing it did not work, only replacement fixed it

I tried bypassing the alarm a couple weeks back according to clarks and it melted some insulation off a couple of wires and created some smoke. Almost gave me a heart attack, evidently the procedure for the 928 part number is completely different than for the late 944 911 part number. I have been fighting this thing for quite some time and it is getting to the point Im ready to sell. I havent got to drive it in months.

post a WTB in the classifieds section for a good used module with your part number.

Most car alarm places will be able to help you with the alarm part. They can remove the alarm module and istall an aftermarket alarm if you are in dire straits with the one you have. Have you called your local porsche dealership with the module # to see if they can help you? It is frustrating to work on these cars but in the end well worth the aggrevation when your problem is solved. What is the exact # on the module you are looking at maybe someone here can cross reference for you and find it.

Bypassing the alarm should not have caused anything to melt or smoke. Putting the jumper on the correct posts of the connector after you have disconnected it from the alarm module simply closes the circuit that the alarm normally holds open when it is activated and functioning properly.

Did you remove the connector from the alarm module? Did you remove the power connector from the alarm?

to answer the question of did I unplug the power connecter from the module the answer is no. I went by the pic on clarks and it showed it all plugged up with the pins jumpered so i left it pluged in. So that probably explains why it did what it did. and for the second question the pic of the module in the previous post is the same part number as the one my friend let me borrow. The one in my car has yellow writing instead of the blue and has a 928 part number which I will post as soon as I get to car. thanks for the help guys.

Is this the number on your alarm module? Which pins did you jumper when you tried to bypass? your car is supposed to have the 928.... alarm module.

Jumper 1 and 4 then 7 and 8 / \ denotes taper in the harness plug so you have it the right way. Unplug from brain first then jumper above wires in the harness..

I'll check tomorrow. I think I have an alarm module from a 951 and i might have another random one. I'll see if either are a 928# if they are I will drop it your way.

Sorry, I don't have the right part number. There are some good parts guys on this board, I also suggest Sean and Autobahn parts (autobahnparts.com), give him a call and he should have one.
