Another transmission lost to final drive death.

Ok, my transmission just randomly decided to grenade driving down the street at 25 mph today!?! I'm about 90% sure it's the ring and pinion that blew up, but I haven't got it home yet to start dissecting. It's a 5-speed, my daily driver, and I need to find one ASAP. If anyone knows of one in decent shape preferably in or near the Washington DC area, please PM me.

BTW, does anyone know if a late transmission will work with an early car?
Edit: I searched and found that it will work, so I pretty much need a working 5spd geabox that doesn't cost a fortune to ship.
Edit^2: I've found one, so I don't need one ATM.

I'd love to, but I'm in school with not nearly enough money. I'll have an S one of these days, though.

I saw that one on ebay, but I've got a member here with a good one that I'm going to buy, so I'll be on the road again soon.

It wasn't too bad getting it out. The shifting linkage was the hardest part after figuring out the shift rod separates at the linkage under the rubber sleeve after the fact.

Just as I expected. The failure was a bit dramatic for only going 25 mph. I had to limp across the intersection and down the road into the parking lot at work and it made a hell of a lot of noise. I'm glad it didn't happen on the highway, especially since I drove back from New Jersey the night before. Perfect timing.

These must have been broken off by other pieces inside as I was grinding to a halt. I almost never abuse the drivetrain on my car and have no idea why it just disintegrated...although a couple weeks ago I did accidentally drop the clutch kind of fast and stopped the engine after I parked and was distracted enough to forget that I didn't shut the engine off yet, but there were no strange noises at any point before this failure that would indicate damage done.
