timing issues how too
 
I was wondering the best way tocheck the timing on my 86 na. getting a few suggestions on my starting issue. not sure how tocheck the timing on my car. thanks mike

Line up the cam and clutch marks to TDC?
Just a guess, need to know too. :)

that will do it, but there is a reason here to verify you are using the correct flywheel mark

just make sure you are using the correct flywheel mark, both should be dead nuts on!

while you are at it, make sure the rotor is pointing to #1 spark wire while the timing mark is lined up, some of these things sound stupid but sometimes it is something stupid that can cause a problem, dont ask how i know

Lining up the cam and crank marks is a good start, but can be subjective especially when looking at the flywheel mark!

Since spark timing it calculated from the ref sensor off the flywheel, using a timing light (off the cyl1 wire) through the inspection plug to the cam gear is ideal! This takes into account any timing belt stretch and will instantly tell you if the cam gear is off a tooth or not.
