Exclamation Bolt sizes! Please help! :(

I was just about to take my babe for her alignment and I did an overcheck to make sure everything was in place (hasn't been driven in a while due to rear suspension problems) and I find a bolt missing from the rear trailing arm!.

It was no where to be found thus making me have to buy more but problem is, what should I get and where can I get it? I talked to the man at the shop who was going to align my car but I felt that what he was saying was bullS**t, telling me to go to the dealer about that but Porsche doesn't make items for the 944 anymore!
He was telling me that it's a special length, diameter, and hardness... if those bolts really are -that- special, where can I get some new?

If I don't have to use the type of bolts he was stressing, what sizes does it have to be? I'm really stumped here and don't want to take any chances of getting something wrong.

Thanks to anyone in advance for help

Yes, you can get new bolts. Just because they supposedly aren't making them doesn't mean there isn't a bunch of NOS in the warehouse. you can get new and it shouldn't be that expensive. Which one got lost?

Most parts for the 944 are still available from the dealer, especially things like nuts and bolts.
You used to be able to dowload a pdf of the parts diagrams (Porsche calls it PET) from the PCA website; I don't know if it's still there or not. If you look up the part numbers you need, it should have a description of the bolt. If you have the part number, a quick phone call to the dealer will tell you if it's avaliable.

I'll try and get a picture for better mind's view but the one that got lost was the bottom one. Top is still in place and that weird offset one (in which I'm guessing is the adjustment bolt) is still in place but rather loose.

Might you know some sites I could get them from? and just a scenario, let's say I can't find OEM (new) know any aftermarkets?

Also, what does NOS mean? (forgive me as I'm new to most mechanical terminology)

I've checked their site and can't seem to find it without being pestered to pay a fee and join. Though rumaging around Pelican I managed to find this

#s 31, one of those is missing, the bottom one.

and #s 30, I have that but it's very worn it seems and not tight

Might pelican have these parts?

find out what bolt it is. then go to local napa/ace hardware/true value and see if they have it. it might be like a big 10.9 bolt. but i doubt it's "that" special

When he said that, the only thing I can think of that was -so special- about it was the size being metric and not inches... I mean, that's what happened when I had to swap my other trailing arm,the bolts were dry rotted and rusted to high hell so I bought new ones from the local hardware store here. Got the bolt I needed made of the same material, same thread length, same shoulder length, and diameter and when I slid it into the trailing arm's bushing, it was a perfect snug fit as the OEM one I took out...

Sometimes I think people try to take me to the cleaners just cause of Porsche's rep...

I have a lot of extras left over from a restoration project. Lots of bolts and nuts.
Do you know what size you need.

I can send to you for the cost of shipping or postage, so in other words free.

I just hate it when someone's car isn't driving because of missing a silly bolt.

Let me know.

Okay, I just checked the parts diagram...I am pretty sure I have what you need.

I will check in the morning. Like I said, if I have it is FREE just pay the shipping costs.

What year is your car?

From what I can tell you are asking about the M12 x 1.5 x 40mm bolts that you need four (4).

Or is it the bolt that goes between the trailing arm and the rear axle cross tube?
That one is a M12 x 1.5 . 90mm bolt. Of which you need two (2).

Let me know.

Let me know.

1984 N/A and the bolts I need are numbers 30 and 31 with there respecting nuts and washers.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/944_parts/944_83-85/Pic41.jpg

From the looks of the chart, I'd need two of number 30 since it looks like a special adjustment both and four number 31s. I hate that pelican had to change their labeling on their charts since it makes things abit hard for someone like me (they used to have it so you could click the number and it take you to a page that had a listing of the part and how much it would be), not knowing the specific sizes and whatnot

But overlooking the chart again, might you have bolt numbers 26 and 27 (two of each) as well? I'm not entirely sure what he'll need to do for the alignment but I just want to play it safe and be fully prepared the first time around

And thank you so much for this very generous offer!
