944 crank cradle
I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Point blank my engine block is cracked and junk. My question is that I can get another stripped block in great condition but the guy lost the crank cradle. Can I use the one from my current engine as long as its ok and the same year? I'm guessing they are milled as one unit and have to be a matching set.

Your guess is correct, you can't use that block. The girdle is bored for the mains with block and has to be used as a matched unit. A block without a matching girdle makes a nice glass top coffee table though.

couldn't he have the assembly line bored to get it back where it needs to be? Obviously this would have to be done by a GOOD machine shop. Probably not worth it unless the price is right on the replacement block (e.g. near free.)

The cost is not worth it and you would be guaranteed to have to use oversized bearings if it could even be done. If the girdle was close enough you may get lucky, but like the balance shaft covers you should never use anything other than a matched set. Even if the block is free its a bad deal.
