Pre 85.5 verses Post 85.5 hatch pin question

I am in the process of replacing my '84 hatch with a newer one from '87 and noticed that the hatch pins are different. My old ones are pretty rusted and was wondering if I could just use the later pins already on the new hatch or will I need to procure a replacement set.
