if you shorted out the leads (positive voltage where it shouldn't have been) are you sure the DME is still good? I power washed my car before I tore the engine out and when it went back in I had a strange running problem that traced back to a blown DME, just from powerwashing and starting it.

Does it still have an ignition switch? Could be that it went bad.

Check for voltage at the fuel pump fuse while cranking, simple was of seeing if the DME relay has power or is working. If there is no voltage, and replacing the relay dosen't fix it, then it is never getting the signal to activate. Which means the DME may not be seeing the reference sensors and not allowing spark or fuel.

As far as connections go, make sure the connector right in front of the fuse box is connected and the small ground connectors on the block are clean and tight.

Other than that I would have to be there to look at the car.

If I were you I would consider putting in a known working DME and see if the car starts. I am no professional but sounds to me that your DME (computer) would now be toast!

-computer is good we stuck that into our daily driver 944 and swaped visa versa (just in case)
-bypassed fuel pump relay with a switch and does have power through it and you can here it kick on
-dme shows 12volts coming into the computer from the plug
-cleaned all grounds

if you have fuel, voltage and the DME is good then there is something wrong in the reference sensor path. You may want to make sure you have signal at the DME (best method is an oscilloscope, can be done with a multi-meter, check clarks-garage) Normally you would check for tach bounce but if your tach never bounced, then your gonna have to check the hard way.

Sensor stuff

Ref sand speed sensors can also be checked by making a kina noid out of an led. However an oscilloscope is better.

Sounds like a duff flywheel sensor to me.

connectors

Lotsa times it is the connectors and not the sensors. Make sure those are in good shape.
