The Good, The Bad and The Ugly...
Here's the rundown on the 951 I purchased a while back. First , the bad:
![]() I'm thinking I can locate a fender at a salvage yard, might be better than trying to repair the damage. ![]() The rear end is sitting way low and bottoming out. Is there an adjustment on the torsion bar ? The Ugly: ![]() The PO trashed the rear carpet and was in the middle of installing some kind of mega -stereo ; what is all this stuff? Is it worth anything? I installed a new Panasonic stereo in my other car using the original speakers and it sounds great. Not interested in blowing out the glass with a stadium sound system. ![]() I do not like the phone dials, just a matter of personal taste. What are my options for other wheels? The Good: ![]() Power sport seats that are in very good condition. I know that these are very popular, but they don't feel good on my frame and I would like a more comfortable seat. I have the receipts from the PO which shows he paid $500. each plus install two years ago. ![]() Overall, the motor is in good shape, runs great and I have records for all the major stuff ( Timing belt, water pump, clutch, etc.) There are lots of little things like bulbs, dash is cracked, horn doesn't work, etc. Questions and comments welcome!

Hi, I believe that you have sport seats and they appear to be leather as well. Nice seats. You can sell those and get some regular seats that don't have as big of sides for a reasonable sum. If you repair body panels you may as well do a repaint. Maybe you could find some polished sewer lids if the offset is the same.

Interesting. I guess I will never understand what would posses someone to put more money/time/effort into stuff like a stereo system rather than fixing the things on the car that need more attention, like the rear suspension. Glad you already plan on fixing the right things first though!
But anyway I'm sure you got the car for a great deal. Looks like it has a Lindsey Racing boost enhancer on it, and obviously the cone intake. Do you know if it has any other performance mods? Post new pictures once you get it all cleaned up with new wheels and stuff! Looks like it will be a fun project to work on!

The rear ride height can be adjusted via the spring plate on the rear end. If you take too a place that knows how to do an alignment on one of these cars then ask them to adjust the ride height.. either way you should have an alignment done because it changes the camber on the rear wheels.
For wheel options, you can get anything late offset basically. That means any relatively recent Porsche wheel. Ditch the cone filter, that is sucking up all the air after its passed through the intercooler and radiator (IE, hot air).

Let me know if you decide to sell those late off-set 16" phone dials. If they came with the car the fronts should be 7" wide and rears 8" wide. They would work very nicely on my '88 924S.

How much did you pay? But yes, I agree if you're going to fix the fender, you might as well just do a repaint.
And I also don't understand how someone would let the major things go and start putting in a stereo (which looks horrible, by the way.) I don't know if that stuff is worth much, though. I put a nice sound system in mine, but that was partly because the stock speakers by themselves aren't loud enough, partly because I still have a little ricer in me, and partly because I already had this stuff. And either way, I didn't sacrifice the car's movement for how loud my stereo is...

True true.
well I'm pretty sure you can get a few hundred bucks for that amplifier and those crossovers. (at least they look like crossovers anyway.)

I have a friend in the Seattle area, who is a fellow Pelican as well, that got some 17" 996 wheels put on his 951 up front and 9jx18" for the rear. They looked great!
Another recommendation would be the Turbo Twist wheels 18" those are really nice looking on a 951. That would be my recommendation here. Apparently, the 996 offset is the same as your MY 951 and then you have a better array of tires to choose from.

I wouldn't go larger than 17",you will just ruin the ride quality if you do and just for the look it's not worth it.

Glademister, the tires are 205/55 on front and 225/50 rear so I think you are correct on the width. I was thinking I'd keep the tires since they are Pirelli's with a lot of wear left in them. If you're interested in the tires ,too, let me know. I think I want to stay with a 16" wheel if that doesn't limit my options too much.
Aufgeladen944, I paid $3k for the car and the PO had very good service records so I feel pretty good about the mechanical side, it's mostly cosmetic stuff that needs attention. If I can get a few hundred for the stereo stuff, I would be thrilled. I'm definitely selling the seats, they are recovered sport seats, electric driver, passenger manual. Not leather. Purchased from 944 online for $995. in '06, still in very good condition. After repainting my '83 last summer, the thought of doing it again sends me into a cold sweat. I think this time I'll do the body work and prep the car, then take it to a pro to finish. Thanks all, for your input!

Steve,
My car is an S2, but I believe the suspension, wheel size, etc are pretty much the same. If you are planning to stay with factory 16" wheels there aren't many choices available. The ones pictured (D90s) I think are pretty much it, or the ones mention above used on the 928. My experience was going to 17" wheels opens up a whole bunch of wheel & tire choices. I switched to 17" CUP wheels and WOW, what a difference in over all driving! Can't recommend it enough. Personally, I never liked the look of the twists, but they are quite popular and inexpensive to buy. If it were me, I would get a set of CUP wheels or D90s and have them powder coated to match your chassis. My 2 cents, replace the fender. I suspect the with price of 944 parts it would be cheaper & quicker to switch it out and you could probably even a black one. Best of luck ![]()

FYI - You can get a rough idea on wheel width by measuring through the openings in the wheels. You'll know for sure if the fronts are 7" and backs are 8".

I personally think there is no better looking wheel on a 951 than fuchs. Since your car is an 87 and the factory 951 fuchs different. Maybe you could look into some of those euromeister fuchs replicas. Pretty nice looking wheel for the money , or custom lindsay 17" fuchs, or rotas.

I can use the Pirrelis on my other car, same size, although I just bought new tires for it. Oh, well...I'm with you guys on the 17" wheels, makes more sense. Probably be a few weeks before I deal with that issue, other things need fixing first on my 'winter project'.
