Boxster Ignition Key Problem

My 1999 Boxster has a problem in cold weather only.
The ignition key will not turn at all if the car is cold and the ambient temperature is approaching freezing. Warm weather - no apparent problem.
I have tried WD40 in the key slot and cylinder well - no change.
When I attempt to turn the key in this condition, on occasion, the alarm will activate. Reinserting the key fixes that.
Also, the steering wheel does not lock during the cold weather.
Any ideas?
Is a new cylinder/set of keys necessary-is that a DIY fix or dealer?

Sell it and get a 944 !

Or, heh, you could try asking on the Boxster forum.

never heard of that one. But def. check out 968.com its a very active forum. Kinda sounds like you got water/moisture in your steering column or the grease in there is freezing. Odd
