Head install: front two M8 Allen bolts question
Hi all, I recently purchased an 87 944. I'm a total newbie here and this is my first post. Searching through the forum I've found some great info for helping with head gasket replacement--and my initial problem: a dead fuel pump relay. Question is (and I can't find the answer in the PET catalog) how long are the 2 front allen bolts by the temp switch supposed to be? Anyone have a part number? Or can I approximate with hardware store bolts and some washers? Soooo close to having this job done!

Unfortunately the bolt is not listed in PET and there is also no reference to it in the exploded views from the factory manual. I dont remember the lengths offhand, but i know they are M8's.
You can replace them with any generic metric M8 from the hardware store, try to find something zinc plated because water does come in contact with the threads of the bolt. Do yourself a favor also in the future and give them a liberal coating of antiseize, they can be a real bear to remove sometimes.

Thanks! I ordered some 10.9 grade zinc-coated as suggested. Also, if anyone's interested, as far as I can tell, the bolts are approximately 40mm and 55mm long.
