Strut tower knocking
I have a knocking in right front. Removed wheel, and lifted hub upwards to compress suspension and can see tower mount in engine compartment moving upwards. When I release hub there is a knock/ping from the top of the strut as it decompresses.
I'm assuming the insert is shot because it appears to be leaking but what about the top mount area?

The easy part in order, Koni, Bilstein, Boge/Sachs & KYB.
Good advice on post 4. I am satisfied with Boge/Sachs. new to the 944, have some ?'s Strut tower info from Pelican: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_SUSshk_pg3.htm#item6 Upper strut mount. There are aftermarket and many parts cars and used suppliers. Do as many bushings as you can on the "A" arm and sway bar. To remove, mark the bottom of the shock mount-scribe deep and carefully- or you will need an alignment. The top bolt-many members use an air gun. I am more gentle and use a wrench and vice grip to hold the strut piston on top. Spring compressors can be rented or purchased. ![]() GL John_AZ |

How bad (or good for the price) are the KYB shocks? I could put the savings towards all new bushings and strut mounts.
