				Headroom Issues

Hi all 1st post here. I'm purchasing a 86 944. Years ago I had a 951 with the rare "sunroof delete option" so I had plenty of headroom. I'm 6'2" and I like to drive sitting straight up, so I'm having issues with 944s with the sunroof (which is literally every 944 I've ever seen other than the one I owned). I was wondering if anyone here has successfully either lowered the seat significantly or done something about the huge bulge in the sunroof/interior roof. I wouldn't be totally adverse to ripping off parts of the sunroof if it would solve the problem. The way it is now I can barely drive comfortably and heaven help me if I ever want to wear a helmet in the car. Thanks! Last edited by AutoXdriver; 04-22-2009 at 05:55 PM.. | ||

There are ways to mount seats to the floor without sliders. Coud give you a few inches. You would have to ask someone who know more about it tho.

I had the same problem, then I got a saratoga top. Now I have all the head room I need.

I got the Recaro aluminum seat mounts for an old Recaro SPG. These mounts bow out and the seat is narrow (~14") enough to sit between them ON THE FLOOR and still slide back and forth. My seat bottom is touching the carpet. I also took out the sunroof headliner which made a big difference. Finally I shaved some out of the sunroof latch and the web that supports it. Eliminating the latch entirely and bolting the sunroof would be a last resort. So it can be done. Why did they put latches right where your head is supposed to go?

Are you sure you don't have the aluminum spacers under your seat? I'm 6' 2" as well and I've got good headroom. No spacers, and sport seats I believe.

I'm 6' and checked head space today and I have about 4-5" clearance. is the rear height adjustment lowered? When I got my car my rear height motor was jammed at max height. After pulling seat and manually adjusting down it's a lot more comfortable and more headroom.

I have the same issue. Only 5'8" as well. Once I wear a helmet and get the seat a little closer, my visor scrapes against the sunvisor. My seat is down as far as it can go at the back. Maybe this has more to do with the length of your legs?
