When I did mine, I had to remove the shift knob and pull the leather down over it. It was extremely tight and took some time. However, in the end, it came out okay. the cap goes on pretty straightforward at the end. Has little clips to sit in straight. I had trouble with the top of the leather being a little too thick and the emblem wouldn't fit in. I had to cut a triangle out of the top of the boot in order for it to go down.
You can read my experience doing my own and see lots of pictures here at my website. Everyone's experience is different with it however. As you can see from my final result, the shift knob has been mutilated by the previous owner attempting to do the same thing and the button doesn't sit flush. |

Pull the knob out of the car. Soak the knob end of the boot in warm water. Stretch boot over knob. Wait for water to dry and snap the cap in. Viola looks like new.
