headlamp switch

i have (more than once ) had the headlamp switch burn up when turned to the on position. i have been told that this happens in the early cars(83 and 84) because the current runs through the switch without going through a relay. is there anything i can do to stop this or am i just going to replace switches and rewire the burnt ends???

Hear is a kit that relay buffers the headlights form the switch.
