spoiler drains

has anyone come up with any neat ways to keep the rear spoiler from filling up with water? It's been raining for about 2 weeks and I've already cleaned out the drains at least every other day. They just fill right back up again, every little bit of tree debris goes right into them and then I have a birdbath on my hatch again...

use a hanger, flattip screw driver, and clean it out reall good. It takes no more than 1 minuets for both sides. Top to botoom, bottom to top, back and forth. I saw a Turbo the other day in a parking lot, guess ti was there for a few days, and the spoiler was a "birdbath" Took my key out and cleaned the drains.

I use a dental hook to clean mine out. I run it up at an angle and then scoop all the crap out.

Before I started doing this I noticed (once while washing my baby) that water drains VERY slowly but not down the back of the car. This explained the mystery water in my smuggler holds. It also explains the surface rust on the latching pins and gummy grease in the catches.

Since mucking a great deal of foliage and dirt outta there... hasn't happened once. I din't need to remove the spoiler I just hooked and dragged. Run some water through there after your done or the leftover crap will probably leave 2 distinct lines down the fresh wax on your rear end.

I keep a short piece of weed eater string in the car for this.

I just blast the hose in each drain every time I clean the car. That keeps everything flushed out.

I was literally thinking about posting a thread like this just today to see what variety of items people use to clean theirs.

I use one of two things depending on what I have handy. I use either a saw blade from a hand saw or a zip tie.

Spoiler drains

Bristle pipe cleaners, the thick ones, work well

Just blow it out with water everytime you wash.

And drive really fast.

I've been blowing them out every 2-3 days (anymore, I just leave the garden hose laying at the side of the driveway so I can give it a quick blast,) is the problem. Why do they fill up so darn fast? If I removed the spoiler and sprayed the underside with silicone would that help?

Stay off the moors...

sorry, i meant refrain from parking under trees. for me, trees meant a triple-threat: sap that falls onto the car as a mist, leaves twigs, etc. that find their way into the under windshield-area and battery-box area and all of the above the plug the rear spoiler drain holes. of course, the spoiler drain holes create the spoiler lake. but the sap has to be cleaned-off the paint immediately...

best of all, tomorrow we will all own part of general motors

there is literally no way for me to avoid parking under trees... POs of my house landscaped everything with a forest vibe. I'd have to cut down a whole mess of big trees to avoid parking under any of them, and then I'd likely be running my A/C a whole lot more!

Well under the battery tray is where I've always had problems. I rolled up some plastic mesh and pushed it in about 1/2 inch. This way only the liquid flows through. Once a year or so I lift out the battery and clean out all the crap that won't pass the mesh. I guess a smaller piece of mesh could work in the spoiler also (may look crappy though). I just spray my rear spoiler drain holes with the hose from the underside each time I wash.

General Motors: Nope. They are exchanging to an LLC, same as Chrysler did. It's called a screw job on the tax payers.

The spoiler drains are just too small. Luckily it's the GF's car, so if water gets in when she opens the hatch, it's on her and not me.

I use a couple of black plastic zip ties and when I walk by, I move then back and forth to make sure that the holes are open. Everything collects in there, even pollen from trees will block the holes, if you live in the woods like I do.
