Question i honestly hate to do this...

... but Ive spend the last week searching the Internet, scaling every inch of these forums, and flipping through hopeless posts that give me everything but what i need. in some posts years ago a few people made a sub enclosure that fits directly over the rear seats after they've been deleted. i don't like to try a project on this car until i have enough information for fear of destroying something expensive!

what i am hoping for, is someone to have the dimensions for this fabrication:

i found that picture in a post from a while ago, but no dimensions, or even a general idea of what type of wood.

i am not a skilled woodworker, nor am i an audio wizard, but one can only get better with practice and learning. i just don't want that practice to turn into a couple thousand dollar mistake .

That's awesome! Good place for them so they don't waste valuable hatch space, the rear seatback can still fold down, and they don't show much looking through the rear glass. Needs cooler looking speakers, though.

if you're handy with fiberglass, you can make backshells that are form fitted to the seat well, attached to an MDF baffle plate, and are .35 cu ft each and can handle an 8" woofer, and end up with something like this:

im NOT going to get into that debate. I DONT blare my music, i like my music to sound well rounded on all levels, especailly when listning to clissical music and qurtets. i HATE the people who thump there rice bags listning to pdiddy his "money and bichez". now all i want to know is if the set up has been done, and if so, the dementions on it. please do not assume that im going to "bump around town". thank you.

Good sealed boxes with a strong amp would sound way better than the walmart crap most of the kids run. It makes just about any music sound good, but nothing quite beats a very strong and tight low end on music with alot of deep 30-50 Hz bass. I'm not a particular fan of any genre of music. I enjoy stuff from just about anything. As long as the car doesn't rattle...that spoils the fun and, of course, is part of the project.

i cant deal with bass thats too loud. i just need somthing thats presentible at carshows, that is easly hidden in parking garages, and doesnt sound like crap. i figure this rout was the best choice, but im open to sugestions.

and please no flame wars, i wanted an argument i would throw dry rice into a parking lot filled with civics, or mentioned motor oil in the headline on this thread. i dont like arguments

Rice very Rice...or you could save the money and just get a vanity plate...."DBAGABD" Oh and not to mention the devalue to the car. You know how may cars I've passed up over the years, because of these dumbarse sound system were installed.

I just don't get the volume over quality? I guess after your hearings gone it won't much matter, just add more Amps. Ridiculous

^I have 6x9's in those spots in my car with a conventional box (2x12" Memphis Audio) behind the rear seats.

I was going to make a custom box like that for the car, but I decided against it. Yes, it looks loads better BUT it's not easily removable for track events.

My box comes out nice and quick; I've got the connections on the front and a little handle on the top of it so that it's easy to carry .

BNV944 It's more scary to not know the in's and out's of sub boxes, but basically they are pretty simple. To small of a box and you get very mushy bass sound (A sock stuffed in it). To big of a box and the lady at the bus stop 25 yards ahead hears your woofer before you get there, and you don't (Wave length ya' know). So figure close to 1.15 cubic ft. inside the box space for each separate 12" sub for a sealed box. A ported box you will need slightly more inside space at 1.30 ft. Cu. for each separate 12" sub. I use 3/4" marine "A" grade (One side finished.) Plywood or I also use MDF 3/4" board (High quality particle board), both with glue and screws.

Another way to get this information is to check with the technical department of the manufacturer of your particular Sub Woofer. They will get the interior box size right on and not just a very close average, as each Sub Woofer differs from others (A JL Audio Sub is different from a Infinity Sub in maybe as much as 1/10 Cu. Ft. difference in interior box size - example only).

how did you get them to fit? this was my original idea, but i couldnt see how they would fit without some heavy modification.

A: im not a big fan of the vanity plate
B: the value of my car doesnt particularly matter to me. i value somthing that i enjoy more than somthing that has monetary value

and the reason why i asked the question in the first place, is i dont like to do anything that isnt easily reversable. mods are kinda like tattoos in my opinion: you have to truly like the big ones and be able to live with it for the rest of your life.

I like Flash's setup and the one that Ernie posted. 2 different genres that can work well. If you are seriously into sound, I would recommend the use of Baltic Birch for the construction of your sub boxes. The wood is incredibly dense, much stronger than plywood or particle board although it is hard to cut. I used it for sub boxes in professional sound reinforcement for years. The other point is that you don't need 12" speakers to rock a 944. With a good enclosure 1 or 2 8" speakers can do an admirable job. I am downsizing my twin 12" sub box to something less outrageous this year, mebbe 2 8s in one or 2 good enclosures.
