Starting problem
A couple days ago I got into my 86 944na to run to the store. I put the key into the ignition and turned it over. The problem: it continued to turn over and over and over. I tried turning it off by removing the key and it continued to try to turn over. My neighbor had a nice laugh as I stood scratching my head, key in hand, watching my car try to start. I disconnected the battery and it stopped. I am a novice and appreciate any help in troubleshooting. Thanks.

try reseating the various sensor plugs. fuel injector plugs, spark plug plugs, AFM sensor plug, speed/ref sensor plug in the back.
might also want to check your fuses and jiggle them a bit for good connection |

I've never had this happen but seems like it would be an ignition switch problem? They do wear out & you can replace it.
Just a theory but to test this you would check for voltage (volt meter or test light) down at the starter (solinoid). If it's getting power from the ignition switch after the key is off then it would have to be a bad ignition switch. If it's not getting the start power signal and the starter is still running then it is not the switch but the starter. Someone with more experience could probably say it better.

if the ignition switch checks out then it is most likely the starter solenoid sticking. The starter is pretty easy to get at on a 944, just remove it and take it to your local car parts store to be tested.

The only two things it can be is the ignition switch or the starter solenoid. local auto parts store will test the starter for you as suggested. If it tests good, then it's the ignition switch or a short in the wiring.
