Freeze 12 is highly debatable. Here is one entry that makes sense.
"Freeze 12 has it's own set of issues. Since it's a refrigerant blend it must be charged as a liquid - and over time the components will leak out of the system at different rates. If future repairs are needed on the system you will need to find someone with recovery/recycle equipment that is dedicated to Freeze 12. Most shops will not work on any A/C systems that are not R12 or R134. IMHO it's not worth the trouble to use non standard refrigerants but if you must please use the correct service fittings that are specified for Freeze 12 conversions to alert future owners and technicians that your car is fitted with a non-standard refrigerant. For Freeze12 you are supposed to use a 7/16 diameter left handed 14 pitch thread connection for the high-side service port and a 1/2 inch right handed 18 pitch connection port for the low-side service port." Time will be the judge. The next owner may find one more surprise. GL John_AZ |
Do what you want. Charge on the high side, use Freeze 12, I don't give a ****. Mine is still cold and cycles on 134. Thoen, think about it.

matt,
thanks for not giving a s""t!! You rock!! send me the paypal bill, ok? i will give freeze 12 a try and i will changeover to 134 if it doesn't work out. IT'S AN EXPERIMENT!! you have given all of us some great A/C info!!! |
I've never sent an invoice through pay pal. Trying now. I'm clueless on the shipping, I've no idea where to send the compressor or through which carrier, an obviously have zero idea how much it'll be. I guess I'll bill that later?

so it'll clear, a straight R12 to 134 fitting won't work with either the shorter or a regular length belt. A 90 degree fitting and a shorter belt is the way to go if you plan to convert to 134.

You helped me in the past few weeks on issues I had with my 944 and I appreciate it. Your comments on R12 are correct as far as GREEN for the Planet but R12 is less than the tip of the iceberg, we need to do a lot more than that. I may not need the A/C here in Buffalo as much as you, but I still need it. This car is going to Europe to be my vacation/fun car and the A/C is a must there. The parts I am collecting are actually spare parts that will go with the car. Yes I know Porsches are European/German cars, but parts outside of Germany are tough to find and very expenssive. We are spoiled here. I am an American Muscle Car guy (I own 3 Plymouth Cudas) and know very little about Porsches. Any suggestions as to what spare parts should I take that are most likely to need replacement or usually ware out? I have no plans to replace the receiver/dryer and maybe I should. If the systems gets opened it gets contaminated I think? Regards, George. |
Hi George,
I am scratching my head trying to understand why you would want to ship a 944--back to Europe. Why don't you take one of the Plymouth Cudas? I've been to a few European car shows and American muscle cars have a huge following. Really big in the UK. As far as parts, a lot Porsche parts are made or reproduced in Europe. Maybe expensive but available. With USPS international Priority mail, Pelican will ship what you need ;). Parts? OK, he needs AC and it will be hot. "Part-time vacation fun car". Now you do know that with a 25 year old Porsche that is not possible. Leave the Porsche in the US and just rent a car for the track. Let someone else do the work. Enjoy Europe. http://www.pff-online.de/wbb2/index.php?sid=ad6fff77a03cb20e1c812267642fa7c3 GL John_AZ |

Ahh! 85 degrees out this morning (there must have been a cool front roll through) and the vent temps dropped to 35 degrees while driving 60mph before it cycled off. I have to mess with the pressures this afternoon because there is no way it was blowing that cold yesterday when it was 105 outside.

ac
i have a problem:
1. i plugged the connector into the input by the compressor. 2.i then turned the knob on the refridgerant, the ac was running full blast and the refridgerant can became a popsicle. 3. i let it run for ten minutes and felt no change inside of the car. 4. i figuered it was through. i released the hose and closed the knob on the can. the can was a bit cold but not like before. i removed the hose attachment from the can and refridgerant blasted into the air and the can became frozen again. i don't think anything went into the ac system. what did i do wrong???? |
