Homemade Headlight Wiring Harness Upgrade

Hello All,

I am planning on making a headlight wiring harness similar to the one sold on rennbay but I have a few questions about finding some of the parts. Where would I go about finding the bulb sockets and the bulb plug that is used as the "signal connector" to the factory harness.

Initially I plan on using this harness with the stock headlights then perhaps upgrading them later. For those who have tried, does this type of harness make a significant difference in the brightness of the stock headlights?

I have Hella H4 DOT lights with 80/100w bulbs. I upgraded the wire harness with the Rennbay one after using the setup for awhile. It does add a noticeable amount of light output. It does add some hassle too. I have had to replace the relays on the harness a few times now due to exposure to water. If you make you own, maybe find a better spot to store them then in front of the coolant tank...

Or you could use weatherproof relays and sockets, but that's just my $0.02.

Any FLAPS will have the bulb sockets - both standard and heavy duty types. As far as a plug to use as a signal connector, I dunno. When I finally get around to doing this, it will be a permanent conversion and the connections will be soldered and sealed with weather-proof heat shrink tubing (the kind with the sealant inside). The weather-proof heat shrink tubing can be found at any "non-Radio Shack" electronics parts and supply house or on-line.

If you want to go the DIY-harness route and power some heavier wattage bulbs, check out this thread:

H4 Headlight Wiring Harness

all you need to know.

Thanks everyone!

My plan was to mount the relays under the nosepiece. This seems like it would be a dry enough place.

If you still need the connectors let me know. I have put together quite a few "connector only" kits for people that want to build their own. They include the H4 headlight connectors / a male headlight connector for signal / relay connectors and the sealed fuse holder. All with free terminals and not the pig tailed ones they sell you at the autoparts store.

Just buy the rennbay kit. I decided i would try to save some money making my own. But in the end i spent about as much as the rennbay, plus mine is not nearly as nice and proffesional as the rennbay kit.
