Cylinder Head Part #s 8R vs 7R

Just starting disassembly preparing to swap Cylinder heads and I noticed that my donor head ends in 303.7R
the head I am replacing is a 944.104.303.8R
my wishful thinking is that that means 1987 vs 1988?
is anyone aware of the difference in these two part #s?

it is a 1988 924S

Nope, that number is just the mold number that the head was cast from, the date is usually found in the center of a round, slightly raised casting mark (alot of times not even present).

There are really only 4 different types of 8v heads out there:
1- the 951 head with ceramic ports
2- the very early '83 head with a 1/2" "surface area cooling hole" located between the #2 & #3 spark plug holes (only seen twice)
3- the '84 head with a turbulence notch in the intake ports to assist A/F mixing
4- the plain old run of the mill N/A head with no distinct features.

Hop it helps!
-Nick

The later heads also have less valve shrouding.
