I really need your guys help! Any suggestions?

I need some more suggestions HELP
« on: Today at 9:36pm » Quote Modify Remove
Okay guys I've posted WTBs on 2 forums and no results. I've had 2 ALMOST hits but both were turbos and won't fit my 944 na. I have all of the parts I need to do by budget clutch job. Yes I know it's bad not to replace EVERYTHING and it's worse to use a used disk, but I don't have a choice right now.
*
I'm going to redo the clutch job again as soon as I get my bonus but I have to have a car un then. My pp and to bearing can handle a few thousand miles, I just need a disk.
*
I've had 2 offers for 60 bucks shipped for 2 almost new clutch disks pulled off of parts cars but both were turbo disks and wouldn't fit.
*
If anyone has any other suggestions BESIDES WTB ads on pelican parts and this forum or if you come across a decent disk PLEASE reply or PM me.
*
Thanks for the help guys
*
and if you plan on telling me how BAD of an idea it is to only replace this stuff and using used parts don't worry about it. I KNOW, but as I said before this is my only option right now and I am going to replace it fully in a few months!!
*
Thanks again,
*
matt

I would check ebay, post an ad on craigslist and call up local wreckers.

I have my old rubber centered disk with about half its life left. The rubber isn't cracked at all and it worked perfectly fine. I got a centerforce disk and am only replacing it 'cause I'm in there and it's rubber centered (thought all this time it was a new spring disk beforehand as the retarded PO claimed). If you are going to go right back in, it would do the trick and you can have it for shipping charges, probably ~$10 for priority mail.

I've got an extra flywheel too if you need one.

if it's 80% of new, it should last u much more than a few months. unless yer toasting yer clutch with improper driving.

as long as the other parts are still in decent condition and not toasted, i don't see why not.

as long as the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces are still smooth, use some 600 or 800 grit sandpaper and just clean it up. there's nothing to really do with the finger springs on the pressure plate...but those are bad, then u gotta get a replacement. check throwout bearing that it still spins without hindrance.

it really just comes down to how desperate u are to not spend money now. u can get away with not spending anything IF everything is still in decent working order.

If you get a good used OEM sachs disc, it should last at least a few years with 8mm thickness. (minimum is about 6.3mm). This photo shows a measurement of 6.7mm. 8mm is a good number.

Phew. I thought i was supposed to have 8.3 on both sides! I was like ummmm I just got ripped off. Nope! I'm good! That so wierd though, because the disk i pulled out wasn't even close to the minimum, but the rubber did that. Could it be because the car wasn't driven much for the last 4 years and in the least few months it's been driven a lot?

The POs daily driver went out so he went from only driving this thing a few days of the month for 4 years to driving it every day. Maybe that with the fact that it sat uncovered for a while dried out the rubber and when he started driving it hard again the rubber started to go bad.

What a sheltered life I've had. This has left me speechless. I'm curious as how this idea came about. I want to throw the word ingenious at it! How in the world did someone make the connection between a Ford Bronco II and Porsche? Wow.

Kudos!

Build your own Clutch Disk! Genius! Can I just make a few and sell em on Ebay or something? lets see....50 bucks to start, takes a few hours...hmmmm, even if not all that profitable you could really drive down a few prices.

That could save a bit. As last I recall...The throwout bearing is expensive as well. I can attest to the fact that MOST of the time you can re used the pressure plate with a little surfacing as long as the fingers are still good. There are a few "gotchas that will still cost some bucks (RM seal, fork shaft bearings, fork shaft?, FW bolts, etc.)

The labor is still a factor and not much to be done about that. Glad to hear that someone has made a little headway on this problem!
