Nice Rides?

New guy here. First post. I noticed some New Englanders here this afternoon and was wondering if there were any groups of 944 owners that meet at car shows or cruse nights in central NE? Have owned my 944 for a year now and all the cruse nights etc have featured mostly American hot rods etc. The only PCA event I attended I was the only 944 and was not even acknowledged, not even by the one Boxter that was there out of some 20 cars. Most hard core Porsche owners still don't seem to remember that the 924, 944 and other water cooled Porsche's although not perfect, saved Porsche back in the eighties when the air cooled engines could not produce hp and meet new emissions etc.
Would be fun to go to some of these events with other 944's owners and help each other with maintenance over pizza and and beer.
Let me know. Foliage in NE on RT 9 over by Bennington VT or the Mohawk Trail(just paved from Erving to Miller Falls) Could be fun!

Those PCA guys get less snobbish when you polish their bumpers at the track. . .the OTHER thing they forget about our cars!

Listen not all PCA regions are that way. Regions like that piss me off. I take my 944 to stuff and while I am one of like 3 944s and the youngest member my car gets as much attention as any other. Sorry your PCA region sucks so bad.

I'll be heading up that way in a month or so - I'd love to meet up once I get settled in at the new digs...

LOL. The PO of my car said he quit PCA for pretty much the same reason.
He wanted to drive and all they wanted to do was go to dinner and sip wine,.... talk talk talk.

This is why I did not join.

I'd love to do that, although I might have to take my 964 as my 944 seems to be more comfortable making stains on my garage floor rather than out on the road at this point. I'd also have to get a kitchen pass from the wifey, but there are lots of good roads that are a day-trip away. Route 2 out in Western MA has some good parts, the Appilachian (sp?) Gap in VT. Kangamangus Hwy and Hurricaine Mtn Rd. in NH. Rt-1 one up the coast in NH and ME, etc.

I too have experienced a hint of PCA snobbery and I took my 911 to the last car show!!! This is a show that I go to nearly every Friday in the summer because it's 15 minutes from my house. I'm a car guy, and I like all kinds of stuff. Most of the cars that show up are American muscle, but you do see the occassional Ferrari, or some oddballs like a Qvale Mangusa, or the like. PCA shows up once and have an aire like they own the place.

It seems to me like if the PCA folks haven't seen you at the track or an auto-x (not that I don't want to, time has not allowed for it this year) then you aren't a true Porschephile. I just can't stand that attitude. I own Porsches because I enjoy driving them - to me it doesn't matter where. I'm comfotable on an auto-x course, on a back country road, or cruising down the highway, and that's what these cars are made for. I guess because my 964 is a cabrio, I'm not worthy, because I don't want to put a roll bar in it in order to be able to take it on the track. Quite frankly, that's one of the factors in my purchase of the 944 - I can track it - something I've always wanted to do.

I keep my PCA membership because it's good at the autocrosses that are put on by the Renegade Miata Club as well. This means I can participate in events put on by both clubs for the cost of 1 membership.

I've been to a few PCA sponsored tech sessions as well, and I've met several of the folks in my local chapter, but I saw all of those same people at the car show, and it seemed like we'd never met before. I can remember all of them, but it seems they are a bit too self-absorbed or dissinterested in me/my car to recall. Unfortunately, it's the kind of attitude that turns potential new members off.

I did a ton of high level participation in the Miata Club I belonged to back a few years ago. Making a concientious (sp?) effort to greet and show interest in new members got them more involved in the club and ensured a good membership base and created a great atmosphere of comradery. Why does it seem so different with PCA, unless you spend a ton of money to mod out your car and spend thousands to attend every track event within 1500 miles?

Sorry about the rant - anytime you guys want to get together, let's I'm game.

Not all PCA regions or members are the same. Don't let a bad experience keep you from trying again. Our area has all kinds of owners. We have the wine sipping drivers with garage queens who never work on their own car. We also have owners like me who get teased for driving beater cars but enjoy driving and working on their car. Just remember to be friendly and you will find others who share your passion. If you still don't get along with the local PCA group try SCCA.

I'm about as friendly and outgoing a person as they come (if I do say so myself), and heck, if we can pull a drive together, I'm happy to host the jump off point at my place in Southern NH.

Don't get me wrong here, I have no problem with the wine and cheese crowd, nor do I have a problem with the hard-core folks (I walk the line) - I'm just saying that initial impressions can make or break an individual's perception. I feel like - as a 911 driver especially - there is pre-conceived stigma of snobbery around Porsche owners. It's bad enough from non-Porsche owners, but when it come from like-minded folks, the underlying sentiment seems more amplified.

I actually have a problem with any brand/model snobbery. Sure your Mustang is nice looking and fast in a straight line, but that doesn't diminish the classic Mercedes 450 SEL sitting right next to it that is a picture of luxury, style and comfort. Peeps need to stop hattin' - that's all I'm saying.

How when and where would you guys like to meet? I'm in north central MA can go north or south. Free this Sunday, next Saturday(I think wife is gone?) Then it's Columbus day weekend I'm gone. But after that I think I'm free till Thanksgiving.
I can't believe I'm typing these holiday in already. Where did summer go?
Last year is snowed just after Thanksgiving and they salted the road and that was it.

Dang. You are right, the summer is shot!!! I'm booked this weekend, and next - actually taking a nice drive out to Buffalo,NY from Manchester NH, might just shoot out west via Keene and Burlington, VT, before hitting 90W, or may choose to go route 2 through MA. Might have some time Columbus day weekend (Saturday) but not 100% sure at this point.

I can do the Saturday of Columbus day weekend if anyone else can. Although I still don't think my 944 will be road-ready by then, so feel free to make fun of the a$$ engined, air cooled guy - I can take it.

13 and 101 is 10 minutes from my house - sweet!!!!!

GT583 - where are you located? Townsend? If you know 13 and 101 you can't be very far from me. I have a buddy with a 924S that lives in Townsend, I'll see if he wants to come along for whatever we put together as well.

RedBaron, where in NE CT are you? I lived in Thompson for many years.
