Pelican Parts & PCA Discount

Over the years, I have purchased quite a bit from Pelican Parts. I used to ask for a PCA discount and they gave me one although it's been years since I've asked for one. I generaly have asked when making larger purchases.

Today, I needed to purschase an expensive item - the dredded Automatic Flex Damper and it sells for $1155.75 at Pelican

Prior to my purchase, I sent a message to the Pelican Sales Department asking if they would give me a PCA discount. I wanted to confirm prior to ordering. I received a very quick response with a very quick NO.

With the tough economic times, I am forced to shop around, even if only to save a few dollars.

In case Wayne or other Pelican employees are listening....I purchased the part elsewhere. I hate doing this because I have always had good service from Pelican but, I shopped and found my discount.

oem parts pricing changes frequently - it is not uncommon for one distributor to have a lower price one week, but not the next - a lot of it goes to what they paid for it at the time they bought it

that being said, while they may not offer a PCA discount, most of them will match any price you can find at any other reputable distributor - it is certainly worth a phone call to see

I sent an e-mail and indicated that I needed to order the part & spend $$ today. Their response, while quick and cordial, indicated nothing of the sort. I would think that a sales department would have said something if that were the case.

Listen, I really like Pelican and I have always had good service. But, in this case, where I'm spending over a grand...I need to shop around. I hope that Wayne reads this and realizes that a sale was lost and speaks with the sales person who was very quick to say no. Afterall, every time I have purchased from Pelican, they have immediately sent me a coupon for a future sale - usually 10% off. In this case, I wanted 10% off on this sale and I got it - just from somewhere else.

My intent here is not to trash Pelican and I only hope that Wayne reads, thinks about it, and then deletes the post.

The actual discount you received from Paragon is $39 or 3.4%. Even less when you compute shipping.
Pelican shipping (for me) $10.00. Paragon shipping $19.68

Yes, but zero tax on the Paragon purchase - $1155.75 x 8.975% = $103.72. You know, if Pelican had offered a 2% discount, I would have purchase it from them. I sent my receipt to the Sales Dept and Glenn replied back "no problem, I understand. Thank you for checking with us." At least he took the effort to click send.

Look, it's only 1K and over the years it's probably $5-10k. Not that big of a customer, not worth keeping. But you are right, it is frustrating to compare prices.
