Quick question about the late dash clock
The digital clock that came with my '87 944 did not work. I heard this was very common. I took a gamble and replaced it with a unit I bought at a salvage yard. I plugged in the salvage clock and much to my surprise, it works! But it always works! Keeping the time. Displaying the time. Always. As in, get out of the car, lock the door, walk away and you can still see the time displayed. I realize that it's just a clock and the power use is minuscule compared to that of a car battery. I just want to touch base with y'all. Is this normal behavior? Is the clock supposed to always display the time unless the battery is disconnected?
An interesting tidbit: When I first awoke this long abandoned clock, the time read 1:00 instead of 12:00. I thought that was interesting and worth sharing. |

It should always be "on" but not lit up, i.e. with the car off you should be able to read the time as long as there is daylight.

Ok, so this is indeed normal for the 944. Thanks.

my clock is always on and lighted, even when the car is off
It only dims when i turn on the headlights because you don't need it as bright after dark
