Leak around brake master cylinder

Here's a brake fluid leak showing up around the base of the brake master cylinder where it join the brake booster drum:

What's the diagnosis? Is this where you would expect to see fluid leaking if the master cylinder seals had failed? Or would this be something else?

Sounds like your brake master is starting to fail. Look inside the car up inside where the brake master rod comes through and you will probably see a trickle of fluid coming down the fire wall as well.

Leaking grommet?

Upon closer inspection, the source of the leak seems to be this grommet where the brake fluid reservoir connects to the master cylinder:

Is this a common source of leaks?

I believe you should repalce your brake master cylinder. They will leak from the back when going bad.

. . .and as zed said, check inside around the brake pedal. If there is brake fluid on your floorboard, scrub it out ASAP (and replace master).
