max psi & what mods done?
Hey, well im new to this forum and just been browsing through it for a few months and now time to post something..
anyway im just wondering how much psi your running in your 951,952 ect and which mods are done and what are the outcomes? Cheers, Paulyy |
With the 26/6 and typical bolt-ons (notably full 3'', no cat, MAF and dual port wastegate) my car made right around 265whp/265ft-lbs at 14psi on a DynoJet. The spool-up on this setup was great, usually 1-bar in the sub 2700rpm range depending on conditions in 3rd. I put in a larger turbo last year (60-1 HiFi) but have not had a chance to dyno it yet, based on what others have experienced i am betting in the 300-325whp range at 15psi.. of course at the expense of more lag.
A 951 with a 26/6 at 15psi will easily do around 230whp with just chips and cat-delete. The 26/8 probably around 20-30bhp over that. |
s**t thats pretty good :) im just running a standars 26/6 with a 3" borla exhaust + 38mm tial wastgate & an AFM Link (came with the car) running 15psi. unsure what whp its at. just wondering on others peoples cars to see which extend i can go to, to get a decent amount of whp with which mods to attent

Im pushing 16psi with a 26-8, guru chip, and #65 delco's. No MAF. Yet. Not sure about my exhaust size. I havent explored my car fully yet. All I know is that my car is stupid fast. I would like to install and MAF and a 38mm Tial WG soon.

I'm running roughly 14.3 psi on my '83. No special mods
|
Yeah I run atmospheric pressure one mine too. Only notable mod is a v-8. Mine is kinda fast.
|
Mine's not all that fast, maybe I should move to the coast or better yet, New Orleans, to up the psi a bit.
Hijack off. |
so pretty much most run around 13-16 psi.
what would you guys recommend, either boosting the psi to around say 18 psi and changing the injectors or turbo upgrade and sitting at a nice 15 psi? |
I'm no expert, but it seems to me that once you begin to boost over 17psi, you need to be careful about detonation and lower end components. I think the 86 951 has forged rods like the 83 N/A, so you should be ok there. Chip it, put on a K26/8, larger injectors and a manual boost controller.

Cast rods were a mid-year '90 thing for ROW cars. Everything else was forged on the 951.
If you want to run up to 18psi its time to look at a bigger turbo. Mainly something with a larger hotside, i would go atleast with a #8 if you keep the triple-K flange. Cat-delete is a must and at that boost fuel support is now something to think about also. There are tons of options, pick a realistic HP goal and factor your budget in. Don't be drawn in by big HP #'s from huge turbo's because turbo lag will be killer, especially on our cars. The huge surge of power from a big turbo is nice, but for a street machine a smaller faster spooling turbo is much better for drivability. |

My kid (Trivgar) has run his 86 951 up as far as 26 PSI and amazingly, has not blown it up. He's really careful about the AFR. Under normal conditions, he usually runs 16-18 PSI which is more than adequate.
He's modded the car about as much as is possible without a major re-working of the engine (like what Nize did with his, which is insanely expensive). The car is crazy fast, and with the modded suspension, rides like a race car. Sadly, we haven't had it dynoed since he installed the MAF and the larger turbo. He was shooting for 350-400 RWHP. He figures he's got somewhere around $20K in it. His mods:

thats crazy as! i didnt really think people go this far with these cars.
im just looking somewhere around 300whp. what would be the best option? |
Not my car....
This guy claims to be making about 440... I've seen the car run autocross... Its wicked fast.... He has to turn the boost down when its not on slicks... It won't hook up on street tires and high boost http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1259991531.jpg |

also several above 500whp, including at least 1 over 600whp.. |
