Weird, scary noise...
So I was driving the 944 the other day when I heard a strange rattling noise, the noise like a bunch of ball bearings flying apart. The noise stopped, and I limped the car home. No noticeable performance loss or problems. Checked underneath the hood and the underside of the car and ... nothing. I can't find anything, but I'm afraid of what may happen if I drive it. Any suggestions on what to look for. The noise seemed to come from under the hood, driver's side....maybe toward the front of the engine. Kinda hard to tell. The only way I can describe the noise was something "flying apart".

Take the belt covers off and check all your rollers. Check accessory belts too.

Loose crank bolt. Tension should be 150 ft pounds.
If this is the cause, check the pullys for out of round centers. GL John_AZ |
