sound systems pics?

i just want to get some ideas from what type of sound system installs you have.

- post pictures please
- details would be good
- any ideas are all welcome! from (subwoofer size to amp type to wiring if so)
- go overboard if you wish but its got to be able to fit in a 944 boot and still be able to look threw the rear view mirror.

thanks.

Don't have pics a work but I can tell you about it.

Car came with an old Sony Explode head unit and original speakers. I had a newer Sony Head 50 (watts x 4) unit sitting in the garage I dropped in. The plugs already were set up for the Sony so that was nice. The Sony has Aux input, plays MP3's on a cd and preamp outputs.

Up front I have Pioneer 4x6 TS-A4672R using the factory grills.

In the back I put Alpine 6" (can't find the model #). These are run directly off the head unit. I removed the spare tire and mounted an 8" Rockford sub single voice coil with older free 300 watt amp in a selaed enclosure. I bought a cheap wiring kit for the amp. Has wokred fine for over a year. Put a better quality one in my son's car and can't tell a difference.

Everything looks factory except the head unit.

The sound is very clear, considering the Sony is 6 years old, and pelnty loud. The preamp output to the sub was run inside along the passenger side along with the power lines. I have about $300 in the speakers and sub total. The rest I already or was free.

For the money, I will probably never change anything unless it breaks. I would spend so much to get so little return in quality.

The spare tire are useless IMO, and I didn't ever see me waiting on the side of the road to pump up the 22 year old spare and then change it. I will do my part to keep tow truck drivers working in this economy. I have only had 1 flat tire ever.

The head unit I have is a Nokia 386i DVD/CD it is 50w. x4 with outlets for rear Sub. For using the DVD I have 9" Sun Visor Monitors that work very well. Also is a 400w front amp (100x4) that drives the door pocket system with new installed Infinity speakers, 5",3" & Tweet w/ crossovers (Crossovers were new install also as old crossovers were probably tired). Rear quarter panel speakers are Infinity 4x6 Plate (I tried every which way to fit 6x9's in the rear quarters but it was a no-go - so back to the 4x6). These rear Infinity speakers are also driven by the 4x100 amp, up under the dash. In the spare tire well is mounted a JL Audio 10W3-V3 in sealed box and driven by a MTX 500x1 Sub Amp. In the center console is the original Speaker Fader Control converted to be a Sub Fader for raising or lowering the sub volume (Works well).

This past summer I took a newish girlfriend out to the movies by telling her we were going to a Drive Inn Movie. After heading out towards the country she asked me where the Drive in Movie was, as she had no knowledge of a Drive In type movie any where. I flipped down, her side, sun-visor monitor and said where ever we park. She made me turn around and head back to a real theater. - ha ha.

Just started on my 924s' system.....
Have a pioneer with bluetooth in the dash......am feeding the output from my sirius stiletto into it.
Have an amp running the front doors, and one for the 2 12" kicker subs which will be in the spare tire well (amps mounted inside too).....if I ever need my spare I'll just secure it in the hatch....
Going to build the sub chamber this week......

I don't mean to hi-jack Paulyy's thread BUT.
As Paulyy said, PICTURES PLEASE. Some of us, NAMELY ME, do much better with pictures AND description as to what you all are talking about. I have an Alpine CDA-9885 and would like to add an aux amp and new rear speakers. I don't want the bass to boom me out of the car. I like to keep what hearing I have left. You young guys can have my share of the BOOM BOOM. What can I get by with for a low cost good amp? I am not up on this stuff. Oh ya, I'm keeping the spare where it is now.

Cheers,
Larry

Here is a thread of my install. I used an Alpine 4 channel amp that I mounted underneath the glovebox (Pretty tricky install - I used a piece of pegboard mounted to the glovebox and then fastened the amp to that), along with the stock 10 speaker set up.

10 Speaker Sytem - Anyone have pics?`

This should give an idea of the amp install:

Cheers, Keith

Thanks, Keith, that was what I was looking for and will really help. Being around aircraft jet engines for years has taken its toal on my hearing.

thanks

i had already done the subs, which are dual .35 cu ft sealed fiberglass chambers, each housing a JL Audio 8" driver - that took about 3 days

i took my time on the rest - installation occurred over a 2 week period - i had to fabricate a lot of things to properly install everything - the harnessing of the cables took time too

basically i stripped the dash and interior - i lined the doors, trunk, and rear areas with dynamat extreme - then i installed the dual amplifiers vertically behind the left rear wheel well - i then modified the rear speaker enclosures with different crossovers and beefed up the enclosure itself

then the doors got kenwood separates, and more acoustic treatment

a sony xplode powers all 4 front channels

in addition to the 3sixty2, the deck got its bluetooth module and ipod adaptor

the mirror got changed out for a homelink with 3 garage door openers and a compass

from that is suspended a new belGX65 GPS radar detector

programming and tuning the whole mess took 2 days, as there are third octave EQs on each channel, complete with individual crossovers and time alignment

lol - i still haven't loaded the hard drive in the deck yet

sounds great though, and has most of the features i want - it cost a lot more than i planned to spend (about $4k all in), and it weighs more than i'd like, but i think it was worth it

Flash, how much time alignment did you end up needing? I'd love to hear what you put in the doors, and how you aimed them, etc. Also, how do you like the 3sixty? It has a PDA interface, doesn't it?

I had really hoped to use a Bit One when I built my Audi's system, but the one I got was a bit of a dud, and by the time I got any response from Audison, I had a standard EQ in place which I could live with.

i would have to go down and look at the settings to see what the delay is - i changed it a few times

speaker locations are NOT optimal - the installation done by porsche is the problem - while the oem head unit sucks, the speakers they chose for the 968 are actually pretty good, but they did a piss poor job on installing them - however, since the PO had already changed things, i only had the oem tweeters, and blew them out as soon as i connected am amp with some real power - the kenwood tweeters are housed in the trim piece for the oem nokias - the woofers are where the 5.25 oem speakers were - i'm contemplating moving them

i like the 3sixty2, though i had to get the upgraded one, and the particular pda i am using has a pretty small screen - there just weren't enough bands any other way to tune this right - every other eq i could find adjusted front and rear simultaneously, and that doesn't work, especially in a cab

Blaupunkt AM-FMCD w/ Aux in connected to an IPOD

Polk 6X9 woofer on passenger side, 10" woofer on driver's side. Both are in sealed fiberglass drop-in enclosures. Padding is removed from the carpet and the carpet lays over the woofers.

SONY 250W sub amp under passenger seat. Seat is shimmed up 3/4" to clear the amp. Polk 2-way plates in the factory 4X6 front holes. 5X7 Polk coaxes in the rear side locations. Fronts and sides run off the Blaupunkt Head unit. Speakers are crossed over @ 40Hz to limit bass to the corners. Woofers are run from 80Hz down off the SONY amp.

Installing the subs (just kidding)

I'm planning on upgrading my system in my 83. I'd like to get an Alpine CDE-102 head unit to use with my iPhone. I think I'm going to put Alpine 4x6s in the doors, but I'm not sure what to do for the rears..I'd like to keep the factory look. I wanted to get 6x9s, but I'm not sure if they will fit. Can anyone confirm this?
